Driving under the speed limit

In my opinion driving under the speed limit creates dangerous situations and almost always results in tailgating or other types of aggressive driving. You can see it every day, people overtaking dangerously on 1 lane roads because for some reason some people drive under the speed limit. Now I am not sure about this rule in Ireland during the driving test but I know that driving slower than 10 km/h of the posted limit results in a driving test failure reason being disrupting the flow of traffic in many other European Union countries. What is your opinion on this?

I've noticed since it's gotten dark there are a lot more people driving between 70-80 on 100km stretches.

Some probably need to goto spec savers.

Sadly our roads are so bad you can be stuck in a convoy for miles because there are only a couple of overtaking spots and gobshyte behind the car in front who has no intention of overtaking prevents anyone else from since he is wedged up the ass...

Gobshytes like that annoy me as much as the slow driver.

A lot of that is due to dirty windscreens, both inside and out. Maybe the youngfella that's had a driving licence for three WHOLE years could start a thread highlighting the dangers of not keeping your windscreen clean

My ohs windscreen is manky on the inside I was driving his car and had to stop to clean it

Ah, I just got on the next one, no big deal, that's the thing about travelling from one place to another, you should never assume anything, when you can get somewhere and when you will get somewhere are two very different things.

Op, we had already few threads about this issue. Thing is, no matter what argument you will put in front it will be the same outcome: "think of children!"
Got forbid you will say that person who can't drive 100 and does only 70 is incompetent driver. To make it worse, don't you dare to talk about 2-3 pricks who just sail behind him and don't overtake and making 4th car overtaking a lot harder and more dangerous. And you should never, ever!!!! Mention a horrible move like "overtaking"!!! It's the biggest sin and every time you overtake slow driver a puppy gets cancer!!!
Thing is people won't change and they are to stuck in their mindset about it. They don't see it as an issue. Trust me, I sow it in previous threads already. I gave up.
My solution to this is that my next car will be more powerful so I can overtake those 70km/h carebears and those trains of cars in fastest and most safest way and leave them at it.

I have noticed that and I just accept it now and move on to other solutions which is a motorcycle, I have never driven a motorcycle but I see it as a great investment which will save me lots of traveling time by filtering through traffic, parking fees, insurance and tax. It is more dangerous of course but I believe the positives outweigh the negatives.

You do realise you have to go through the learner and n processes with all the restrictions? And already you are planning on weaving through traffic

Yes, I already have my learners permit. I can drive on my own after doing IBT training which I will do next week. Obviously I will not weave through traffic on my first day as it would be suicide. Also filtering is not illegal in Ireland. I have A2 category permit which allows me to drive motorcycles that are more powerful than most cars. Insurance is cheaper on learners permit for motorcycle than on a car and tax is €30-50.

Just as often you see people at 130~140 a few meters apart trying to out do each other, all in the overtaking lane, hunting for the absolute last minute to dive across 3 lanes to the exit.

People only see what they want to see I suppose.

Curious isn't it.

Statistic's would suggest that vast majority of people are driving over the speed limit. So driver driving slow enough to cause an obstruction must be a very small minority. Yet it dominates so many threads in motors.

my wife has been recently learning to drive, and it was an eye-opener for me, the few times i forgot to take the L plate down, to see how phenomenally eager other drivers are to get past a learner; the two most insane overtaking manouevres i've seen in the last five years just so happened to occur when the L plate was up; which i'd left up on three or four occasions.

On Saturday, my OH and I are treating ourselves to a night in Ballina in a nice hotel. We are driving from Dublin to Ballina. (Leaving early Saturday morning and leaving on Sunday afternoon).

There is a good stretch of 100 km/h N-Road (SINGLE-LANED) which I am fukcing dreading

it lasts a good chunk of the journey I just know I'll be stuck behind some arsehole who thinks it's their God-given right to drive at 50 and hug the middle line.

Definitely should be minimum speed limits on motorways....too many clowns doing 80 in a 120,ive seen it all too often:mad: im a hgv driver that sits flat out at 85kph...try overtake boom they wake up and away up the road with them only to be seen 10 mins later back at 80kph

But if they're driving 40 or 50 and not facilitating other people to overtake they're NOT grand.

You are allowed to briefly enter a hard shoulder whilst driving to let another vehicle by on N Roads.

Jesus. A weekend away and you're dreading part of the drive in case you get stuck behind a slower vehicle.

I'd suggest a train or a bus Frank Bullitt. Relax, have a good time.

Train would be more expensive than driving and would take much longer.

I shouldn't have to avoid roads because of "people" who drive too slowly. The "people" who drive too slowly should be taken off the road.
