Anyone know of Frank Lawlor?

Posting this here on the off chance that someone here may know the family of this man. It is a long shot.

I was listening to ABC Radio National (Australia equivelent of RTE 1) this morning and there was this moving story. A homeless man who died back in June has finally been buried after his identidy was discovered. His name was Frank Lawlor and not much else is known about him. It is thought that he came to Australia from Ireland in the early 1980's. There are no know relatives or close friends.

Some decent people want to bring closure to this tragic story. But don't let that come in the way of your agenda.

There is so little information on this poor man. I don't know if Rev. Bill is familiar with different Irish local accents. Maybe the quest could be narrowed down if somebody could provide him with a recording of different accents. It's just a suggestion.

Maybe one to run by the experts on Boards Genealogy section.

That's a good notion, might get something there.

11 of them appear if you lock the filter on 'francis Lawlor' with birth between 1940 and 1962.

I was asked by the producers on Liveline to be on the show but did not see why I was needed as they had made contact with Rev. Bill Crews who started the search. I explained that my only involvement was to pass the story on. They asked if they did ring back would I be willing to speak to Joe and I agreed. Anyway they did call and I spoke but did not add much other than giving Boards a plug.

Maybe a relative will be found.

PROVE ME WRONG..... Hundreds if not thousands of Irish have met a similar fate through the years in London, New York, Boston to name but a few... And I'll just throw it out there as I'm an avid advocate of non empathy or sympathy towards people who love nothing more than a pint... Anyway I bet drink was his downfall!?!?.....

It's time to stop. It has no relevance what the man suffered with, the fact is he deserves to be returned to his family, if he has any living.

Perhaps he wasn't ever Frank Lawlor. I had two uncles who left Ireland for their own reasons in the early 70s and never contacted family again. Each went by a new name. One died in Bristol. The other in Sydney.

OT, but curious how you know where they went and the new names if they didn't contact family?

One got in touch years later after his marriage broke down. He was a bit wild as a young man. I'd imagine his alias was for 'administrative purposes' in Australia. The other is a sadder story. He left after a bitter fight, and was never spoken about, but when my grandmother reached the end of her life she expressed a wish to see him before she died. He was eventually tracked down to Bristol, by means of various acquaintances and organisations, where he was living in sheltered accommodation having spent many years living homeless. He didn't make it in time though. We were both told of his existence and introduced to him the day after the burial. He was the youngest of his siblings. Late 40s at that time, but he looked older than my grandad. Weird. Sad.
