Unrealistic expectations on Adverts.ie

I have bought a few items on Adverts.ie and have been generally pleased.
However, I am bemused by the prices some people expect to get for their used items. Sonos gear is particularly over priced. Most of the Sonos items for sale are actually dearer than they are new on amazon.co.uk. It does not matter what the item cost at the time of purchase, how can somebody expect to get more than the item is selling for new?
Any other ridiculously priced goods on Adverts?

The problem is that the people buying stuff on adverts make the most ridiculous, low ball, cheapskate offers that you almost have to inflate the price to take that into consideration.

Have something that's worth €100 that you'd probably let go for €75? You have to put it up for sale at €130 otherwise you're getting offers of €30 to €50.

And don't get me started on the swap offers.

Yeah, Sonos gear is good, user friendly and slightly addictive but asking 320 euro for something when it is on amazon for 290 or 300 euro for something when it is on amazon for 280 is just plain daft.

I've seen cosmetics at the same price as brown thomas charge and described as rare or limited edition when they're currently for sale on the BT website.

Adverts is great craic.

There is unrealistic exceptions from both buyers and sellers on there.
You could be selling the Mona Lisa and someone will low ball you or offer a swap for an empty bag of taytos.
Whats gas is the same people low balling might be selling stuff themselves at over inflated prices haha.

Obviously the buyers are looking for a bargain while the sellers are trying to recoup some costs, so advertising 10-20% over what they actually want is to be expected. But it really is stupid if that then brings it over the cost of what it would be new and delivered to your door.

Actually, the ones that piss me off are leeches who go on for the free stuff.....just the ones that are looking to get it for free and then sell it on.

There was one not so long ago, a minority you could call them, hitting up free ad after free ad. I didnt matter what it is, they wanted it.

Then the ones who live in Kerry but the item is free in Donegal....Kerry bastard wants Donegal fcuker to deliver it for free too.

Its quite funny how bad the site has gone.

Sold my Windows Surface pro 2 tablet on it for 300 euros good price considering it was already 2nd hand to began with. Guy puts it up for the sale the day he gets it for 350 and ended up selling it less then what he paid me for it. I am extremely confused and on his add he said he bought it new and wonted to sell to get a iPad i thought it was to funny to be fair.

Also sold my Fat xbox one there a few weeks ago people offering me 100 euros for it ha ha. Jesus like and they are like i give you 100 euros cash if you bring to Dublin from cork .....

Or the best was still to do this day will you swap me a weed growing kit for your iPhone ?. As you can make more back with that ....

Swap for stuff in my adds is great and its stuff that you more then likely have trow out.

For sale Ford fiesta 1.0 year 2001 for sale 850 -1500 several owners runs great no nct or tax ,
Then you see the same car year and so on for sale with a premium tag selling in a garage asking 2500-3000

But like alot of situations there's always someone willing to pay a little bit more for no reason what so ever

Yeah, the swap nonsense is ridiculous. I have not actually sold anything as I couldn't be bothered with the loons. My daughter has a load of toys and gear that she should really sell. I am in two minds whether or not to encourage her, again, the loons.

Find this all the time with people tacking on 5-10% of the market price when the thing is still on the shelves and then getting their feelings hurt when people make reasonable offers or laugh at them.

I'd occasionally buy bits and pieces of Lego from Adverts and it can get a bit nuts. There are tons of online retailers from every country in the world so people can keep an eye on the prices in Belgium or Germany or the US so the prices never get too mad. Arrive on to Adverts and you see three types of sellers;

1) people who are just getting rid of stuff and take a big hit to clear space.
2) people who know the value of what they have but offer a fair price.
3) people who are obviously on crack when they expect top dollar for some mauldy aul shite they found down the back of the couch.

The second group are decent folk, good for a chat and a lot of them frequent the Lego forum here. The third group get ignored and rack up hundreds of non-selling ads until some chump rolls in with more money than sense.

I've heard from plenty of "normal" people that they far prefer adverts because you can block/report time wasters and the whole deal is done out in the open where everyone can see.

Donedeal and such you're opened to all manner of gowls sending you texts and ringing you to waste your time. And sellers too who'll stick one thing in the ad and have something entirely different to say when you ring them up.

It's the nature of small ads that you'll always get gombeens making ridiculous offers and wasting your time. Always has been, even back to the printed buy & sell paper, if you advertised something you'd get all sorts of weird calls and stupid offers.

At least with adverts at worst you have to look at a stupid offer on the screen, you don't have to talk to them.

Some fella low balled me on somthing last week, so I replied with "make me an offer there so I can refuse it". He made the offer

I was selling a near-new graphics card.
This one lad kept saying he saw it cheaper online and would I sell it to him for that price.
I asked for a link as the price he quoted was suspiciously low.
Heard nothing from him after that.
Meanwhile the offers page is full of posts about how overpriced my item is.
Ended up selling the graphics card to a friend.

I worked for an ecommerce company and there's one thing that's guaranteed to work out badly when you're selling something. That's a bad photo. Doesn't matter if it's a car, an apartment or a consumer good, if you're selling something online make sure to have good photo's. If there's a tiny scuff, put up the photo of the scuff, don't just mention it. Otherwise when the buyer sees it they'll go nuts saying it's bigger than they expected.

I have no idea how people expect to rent a place with one outside photo on daft or sell a car with a photo of it in the distance from a bad angle.

tried to sell a bike on adverts a while back, not at a huge price as I just wanted rid of it really, lad hops in and offers asking with the tag 'for pms', grand says I that was easy and fire him a message to see about payment/collection, next thing he replies telling me he'll swap me a vape for it. Politely declined his offer and next thing I know I've been reported to adverts for ''taking his money and not giving him the bike'' even left me lovely feedback and everything! way too much fcukery on adverts i avoid it like the plague!

What I hate is some buyers not showing up and then saying they were in hospital and couldn't make the appointment when they get a bad review from the seller-I'll tell ya, there's an awful lot of adverts buyers in hospital right now!

Adverts is not worth the hassle any more for buying

I always check Amazon, esp now with the low sterling, or set up an email alert with CamelCamelCamel and just wait for the lower price.

A lot of stuff on Adverts can be bought a lot cheaper on eBay (filter price + P&P first) or the Chinese sites like BuyInCoins, Aliexpress ect if you're prepared to wait a few weeks.

Did you report it? It will be looked at and removed if its incorrect.

I think people are fairly guilty of putting their stuff up there at unreasonable prices. I saw a child's trike (won't link) on sale for 50 euro when you can buy it in Smyths for 80 and maybe you can find it on Amazon cheaper again. I personally would rather pay that extra 30 euro 'premium' for something brand new with the added convenience, security and guarantee that comes with buying from Smyths.

If you're going to go through the hassle of buying or selling from someone privately on Adverts, Donedeal ect. then sellers really need to factor in a considerable discount and not look for 'cost price'.

You see some people that have things up there on sale for over a year. What an utter waste of energy and time that is for everyone concerned. Unless you're running an actual business then what is the point in having something up there for that long that you obviously no longer want or need to own. People need to sell it, buy it or take it down and move on.

To be honest, I find it a pretty good site.

If people have unrealistic expectations, you can get thick about it or just move on.

For some goods, particularly IKEA, I near prefer adverts to buying new as you don't have to make the stuff up, you don't have to walk around a giant store for two hours to pay for it......

One that particularly irks me is the prick offering €10 for something for sale at €40 but with the enticement of 'cash today' like he/she was going to pay for it any other way!
