What is going on in our schools?

I live in a very rural part of Ireland as many of you know, the village I live in can have no more than 500 homes in the surrounding area.

This morning I took my Granddaughter to school, its her first year and she is junior Infants. What I witnessed was shocking and upsetting.

The classroom was nicely laid out but everywhere I looked foreign words were displayed all over the walls with pictures of flags and their name in their language. For Ireland the words were wrote in English, no Gaelige anywhere.

I enjoy talking to some of the other parents as I have done in the past when I took one of my grandsons to the school in the past, today was much different. Nearly every mother I spoke too were foreign, I encountered a lot of Eastern Europeans, a few Brazilians, and some English. If I had to put a number on it I would say the majority of the classroom had foreign children with only a small percentage of Irish children.

I waited to speak to the teacher, I wanted to know why Ireland was represented in English and not Gaelige. When she arrived she was welcoming and appeared almost happy someone had finally asked her the question. She told me that because the majority of the classroom could speak very little English they had to use their own languages to welcome them and make them feel at home, English was the 2nd language that all children must learn and so even Irish has to be represented in English. They do still teach Irish as part of the curriculum, but it is only taught at the bare minimum acceptance level as it was no use to the classroom because the majority of the children had been exempted by the school governors and the department of Education.

I asked her why were there so many non Irish children, she replied to me that if I thought this was bad then I should look at the bigger towns and Cities where the problem was far worse.

This is madness, we are losing our cultural heritage and now our children are minorities in their own schools and suffering because of it.

The Swedish police only turned up to protect the rapists from a public mob which had formed to exact justice or revenge. The Swedish are cuckold fools.

I'm not an expert in Swedish law, but I do know that German legislation until a few weeks ago stipulated just that - the victim had to have defended herself forcefully. They only got around to changing that quite recently, and against massive objections from conservative sides.
After all, that rule can be traced back to the bible, conservatives hated to see it diluted.

The OP is right, everyone should be forced to wear tweed flat caps, drink guinness and eat nothing but stew or bacon and cabbage. None of that foreign shtuff like electricity and medicine. All music that doesn't feature the fiddle should be banned and we should start raiding wales for slaves again, it worked out brilliant the last time.

this is ridiculous - you'd swear, judging on some of the replies that we were talking about a school in the middle of the "calais jungle".

the school, nor this country, is neither being destroyed, or invaded by "foreigners".

Irish kids in the school are NOT the minority.

why am i saying it's racist? because it's racist to ASSUME that just because the kids who have polish, chinese, nigerian or foreign parents of any nationality - that the kids are "less irish" because they speak differently or have different colour skin. the kids would probably have been BORN in ireland, to NATIONALISED parents who are IRISH.

they are just as irish as the next red haired fiddle playing GAA star.

I don't know. Personally if we're going to become a big cultural melting pot then its better they come from the EU with cultures similar to our own. Islamic immigration should be discouraged by not allowing any leeway to their ideology hence making it not the most appealing destination for Muslims. We should learn from the mistakes the UK & France made.

We're not going to become a big melting pot, We'll be a big pot of stew that a few dust flakes of chilli fell into.

I agree about stopping these foreign religions from corrupting our youth, so far every religion we've imported has been nothing but trouble. We need to go back to worshiping Bel again.

It's just that most people here realise that diversifying Irish culture and opening up to new ideas and influences is a good thing because this country had an awful 20th century typified by social and economic austerity. People are glad to see the back of it and they believe Irish culture will be strengthened not damaged by it.
