Thought I'd start this thread as haven't found one of the same.

So, 2010.. new decade... new beginnings? With the aim of the League being to get back into Division 1, could Clare also achieve success in Munster this year?

As well as a proposed friendly versus Cork, Ger O'Loughlin has a good load of matches to blood players from U-21's into the senior game. With the opponents in the League not posing a major threat some would argue Clare wont get as much preparation as Div 1 teams, but maybe it will give them an opportunity to focus on their strength and conditioning?

So, Clare face Waterford on Sunday at 2pm in Ballyduff Upper.. I think they should win against this weakened Waterford side, but I think it will be close tbh. But could Waterford topple us in the pre season tournament?

Listen , he's not the only one with this kind of arrangement, some of the players have it too. Yes we're all glad to see the back of him but let's keep the comments and criticism relevant not speculative like Clareman did with his comments.
I know for a fact it is a loan car, the BIK is an issue between himself and the revenue.

I personally wouldn't let Daly near a Clare team again, time for new blood. He worked before but hurling has moved on.

as expected donal and gerry ratified on a two year term lets hope its as competitive as there time underage , regardless what happens over the next two years they fully deserve it

colm collins also ratified as football manager for another year ,his tenure i believe was up at the end of the year

Best of look to the new management team.

While I think this is the right decision, I think they will have a tough enough job in getting this Clare team back being contenders. We were well off the semi finalists last year, and have catching up to do. I feel Davy has left behind a squad that is quite imbalanced and is overly-used on playing with a sweeper.

I'm sure Donal and Gerry will play with 6 forwards as they always have done, but it might make for a painful transition in the backs, as Davy never coached the backs to defend properly man for man. At least we hope to see the best out of the likes of McGrath, O'Donnell (especially), Cunningham, Podge, etc.

Also, we need to come to some sort of solution from midfield up with regards to bringing more physicality and aerial ability. I think tough decisions may need to be made here, I'm not sure we can play Reidy, Galvin, Kelly, Podge, O'Donnell, McGrath all in the one team. Obviously most of those are undropable really, but looking at the top 4 teams were going to find it tough winning enough possession to beat them.

Anyway, I looking forward to the change and to see what they can bring to the table. They will by and large have a honeymoon period during the league next year to test and change around the team, but ultimately it's all about championship.

Corcoran is a good defensive coach. I think he will improve us in that respect if he's given that role. But the reality is we are a team with more ball players than out and out defenders. Whether that's simply a question of coaching or a deeper issue remains to be seen.

Regardless I think we have a team that is better suited to shoot-outs than dour struggles. Our preparation and tactics need to reflect that. For the past few years we've been set up to compensate for our weaknesses rather than play to our strengths. Not only was that strategy a failure generally, it has also seen us deteriorate in the areas where we pose a threat.

This Clare team needs to play fast attacking hurling. Let the chips fall where they may after that.

Limerick in the semi final. no easy games in munster , but probably the best draw we could get , rather then getting a 1/4 final game or having to play a team with a game under there belt , real chance of making the munster final now

going to be very hard for the footballers to make any real progress in munster with the same draw as this year , cork are in division 2 tipp in division 3 if we beat limerick both would have offered a bit more hope , only silver lining is the limerick game is at home and so will the kerry match if they win

The right choice in management as far as I am concerned. The two lads have done everything in underage hurling. Looking forward to hopefully seeing a Clare team going into games expecting a performance. Win/lose or draw any underage team they put out went out and hurled for 60 minutes. Be very interesting to see how they fix the areas we are weak in and how they will try and set the team up.

not the best game at times but the last 15 minutes turned into a great contest very exciting finish looking forward to having the option of watching the game back again at some stage tonight or tomorrow

i have felt over the last few years cathal o'connell had been completely over looked by fitz , granted he is not the biggest player in the world but he has been one of the best club players in the county lets hope that changes over the league next season ,

great to see martin o'leary take his goal so well too , he has been through the mill with the last 18 months or so after breaking his collar bone against cratloe in last years 1/4 final he missed out on a good year with the senior footballers run to the all ireland 1/4 finals along with ballyea's run to the final due to complications with the injury

both balllyea and clonlara can be too hit and miss teams , the next day ballyea while very good defensively will need more forwards chipping in with scores today they were over reliant on tony for scores again
fr clonlara they have the fire power but rarely click ,other then tots's hard work and a well taken colm galvin goal they did very little themselves in front of goal , i still have my reservations on them on the big day , but if they can repeat there performance's against kilmaley in the first round or there win over cratloe in the semi it would be hard to see past them although they got little change off the likes of jack browne paul flanagen or gudgie today

I think its fantastic myself.
The more he does it the harder he will find it to get back into clare hurling in the long run.

Don't forget who his father is, if his father is still in place he'll have no problem getting back in, if he isn't then he doesn't have a hope to get it anyway.

I don't think Clarecastle would be part of an East Clare team so I wouldn't think so, also Daly is/was 4 years older than Foley so they probably wouldn't be on the same teams

There were funny boundaries at the time. It' was more a North south divide Anyway, Daly is now close to 48-49 so, as said, he couldn't be in it.

there is'nt a bridge left in the county that he has'nt burnt, there is no way he will ever be taken back

reading some of the quotes since his departure , i know wexford are delighted to have him now , but it will be interesting what he will be saying down there in two or three years time

They obviously didn't ask too many over the border in Waterford about his latter days there.

I get the impression that he's trying to get a siege mentality going where it all of them against all of us, the only problem is he's just coming across as all of them against all of me.

I haven't heard of any ex-players "cut the back off him" in any way, any that are involved in journalism were very fair I thought and any of the rest were just giving their opinion which every other Clare person was giving.

Brian Lohan was the only one who came anywhere close to criticising him. And all he did was say that after the disasters of 2014 & 2015 a review was needed. Jamesie was too diplomatic if anything, rarely going beyond an expression of disappointment at our defeats.

It's the usual petulance. His sense of absolute entitlement to the undying loyalty and respect of everyone, no matter what he says or does. My god he really is toxic. It is a huge relief to be free of him.
