Mouse under my bed

I keep hearing rustling noises under my bed, usually very late at night if I wake up. It sounds a lot like a mouse. I've only lived in my current house about a month and I don't leave food lying around. I'm very squeamish so not looking forward to handling this.

Any tips on how to get rid of my friend (if it is a mouse) without the use of mouse traps or anything that would involve having to look at a dead rodent?!

We had an issue during the week with mice, they got under the floor boards in one of our bedrooms.

Our recently acquire 6 year old Calico cat Misty took care of the issue, she caught one of the offenders and ate him. She regurgitated parts of his body early that next morning. I gave her a Dreamies treat to reward her. There's no noise anymore so I assume his companion has either scramed or his dead also

Our older cat a tabby Tom is turning 15 soon and is not good for anything much more other than sleeping. Still love him though.

I think you were serious when you posted about "drinking out of the toilet". Just not thinking. I think you did know where the water in your bathroom came from alright but your head wasn't on right at the time and you forgot that you also wash yourself and your teeth with that water. It's ok to be embarrassed on the internet you know.

Oh of course, it's just a Little hobby for the dog. She's an absolute pet.

Amazing to watch her hunting mice though. I've had her since she was a little pup so it's pure instinct.

It could also be rats. They usually only come out at night as the noise of footsteps scares them. It's best you do something now as it will get worse during the winter as more of them look for a warm place to stay.

I've had rats, mice and the odd shrew in my bedroom before, usually when we leave the door to the house open for too long and they sneak into the walls. My tip for catching them is a trap, where you sellotape the food usually ham to the bait part. I've often come back to see the bait has been taken but sellotape has always worked for me!

One of you mentioned mice running over your face in their sleep...about 2 years ago I woke up and smacked my ear. There was blood coming out of my lobe, I thought I saw a mouse running over the floor too. Dad convinced me I had just picked a spot on my ear but I could feel something crawling over me I swear!

A shrew is a type of rodent too. Much smaller than a mouse and shorter tail.

They were endangered for a while not so sure if they still are.

That wasn't aimed at you!

Throughout this thread there are people advising to get a cat. And while they are great at rodent repelling (and hunting and eating HUGE house spiders) they're not just for pest control. You know why I keep reiterating this point I'm sure!

I've cleaned out pet rat enclosures. For the record, I love pet rats. But they stink!

Also, wild rats can and have killed people with their diseases. Mice are ok to have around the house. Pet rats are lovely creatures and I'd have one if I could, smell and all. But wild rats? Nope. No. Don't.

In response to your second question I have an uncle who is a pest controller with 20 + years. I'll go with what he says.

I know the theory behind it. I just find it interesting how the entire pest control industry says it, and Joe Public never seems to question it.

Not trying to trip anybody up here. I think it might be great fun though, to get fifty pest controllers and ask each one, privately, why they say a mouse can get through any hole ye can poke a pencil / biro through.
