Is it worth paying out to get fitted for a driver ..my driver at the moment is killing my game and i need a new one ..its worth saying i was sold a very low loft driver which is no good for a high handicapper like myself ..so will have to get rid of it anyway

A new driver will not fix a swing. It might provide a placebo effect when you get it but poor mechanics you'll wind up in a cycle of acquiring a new one every other season.

I'd suggest a lesson first to determine the underlying swing issue before dropping a lot of cash?
It shouldn't cost the earth to have a trained eye take a look.

Look at driver fitting as simply a supplement to correcting your 'miss' with the driver.
As in you are consistently hitting a fade shot shape with the driver but sometimes you end up hitting a slice into trouble.

When you are consistently hitting a shot shape then it is time to get a driver fitting to alleviate your miss, whatever that might be. When you're at the range for example, after warming up, pick an imaginary 'fairway', go through your routine and if you can hit it with a consistent shot shape 7 or more times out of 10 onto that 'fairway', then that should be your cue to look at a driver fitting. It might be worth keeping notes from a couple of range sessions to see that the swing is in the slot so to speak.

The driver fitting with the proper shaft etc will give you the confidence of having your swing specced to alleviate your miss.

I have been to see a pro alright and although my swing needs work , he said i need a different driver ...it inly has a loft of 9 and shaft is too long ..

It is very hard to give advice without knowing the persons size/strength, swing speed, etc. In general I agree that a couple of lessons from a pro is a good idea and needn't cost the earth, maybe even save you money in the long term. Make sure it or any fitting is outdoors. The pro should be able to advise you. You might even be able to pick up a used driver with a suitable shaft, the shaft being the most important thing and maybe a 10.5 degree head. If you have a fast swing speed go for a "stiff" shaft. I had a driver fitting early this year and then spent €450 on the new recommended driver.... I am still using my 10 year old driver that can be bought for less than €50!!! as I found it was longer/better in play. Have you considered asking any of you golfing buddies to borrow/try their driver and see how you find it

Whats your ball flight when you do hit the driver well. Is it low, slice, hook etc What sort of distances do you get?

What driver do you have? Ping G and G30 are great drivers very forgiving compared to my old R11s.

I'm afraid I can't offer you any advice but I too was going to ask about my driver. I've had a Taylormade r7 since 2007 and I was wondering if a newer (used) driver would give me any extra yardage. Thanks.

I changed my driver shaft this year. Got on a launch monitor with a pro who knew what he was about. Average spin with original shaft was 3000.
Put in a tour extra stiff....in theory no way it suits my swing speed.
Spin dropped to average 2000. Much more penetrating drives.
I would say picked up 20 yards. Very happy with it.

So basically yes a fitting can help. Go to someone with a launch monitor, preferably where you can hit outdoors and see the ball flight.

Swat up on launch monitor numbers too as all this will help you get more out of it. Trackman website will help with this.
Numbers such as launch angle, spin, AOA etc are all important.

Won't be a silver bullet but can help. The numbers don't lie.
