Watched the first episode (first two are available) of Donald's Glover new FX series last night..

Not completely sold on it... some of it is very funny, and then some of it just went over my head completely (
guy on bus asking to take a bite of the sandwich
    ).

Not a big rap fan so don't know how much of it is meant to appeal to that community. I'll stick with it for now though.

    Anyone else watch it?

I really enjoyed it. It might be because I have a soft spot in my heart for Glover and for the music. Some of it was very funny, "This is going up on World Star Hiphop!", "No, it's not". It feels like it could be building up to something good, with a lot of background stuff going on that will be explained over time.

I loved the whole deja vu sequence with everyone.

Didn't really enjoy it. Flicked ahead after 10 minutes just to see how the opening scene played out.

I loved it. I could use some subtitles at times though. The guy in the prison waiting room was impossible to understand but maybe that was the point.

I loved this, found it subtle and engaging. Episode 2 was excellent especially the scene where he's waiting for bail. A lot of hip-hop references that I didn't fully get but will stick with this for sure

Watched the first three episodes now and I've found it very funny. The sandwich on the bus was pretty weird and went over my head also but there are some really clever and funny moments throughout.

In fairness to Glover, he's an actor and writer in his own right (see Community and 30 Rock respectively). Engaging with the rap angle isn't that important, I don't think.

I go a bit on and off on episodes, but last night's was fantastic. Couldn't stop laughing throughout it, and yet, it's still delivering an intelligent message at the same time.

Last episode felt like a tribute to the Eric Andre show. It was great.

That joke in the background in the second last scene was outstanding

The bit with the car at the end caught me completely and I was in bits for a good 10 minutes after. Very fun ep. The promoter was gas.

Watched the season finale just now.
Overall a very good season and looking forward to season 2 already.
Some good comedic moments but plenty of dramatic scenes that kept the show engaging and I really like the 3 leads.

Watched the entire 1st season over the weekend. Really good show and love the random wacky things thrown in (Bieber, invisible automobiles etc)
Glover is one multi talented fella!

Won two Golden Globes. For best comedy and best comedy actor (Glover).

I think B.A.N. is my favourite episode. I've watched it back three times and it still makes me laugh. So many aspects of the racially-confused teen are just hilarious.

Exactly the same here, didnt think it was much up until episode 6 but then it kinda found its rhythm. Episode 8 (The Club) got a good few loud laughs from me.

Its very well made and looks great, Darius and Paperboi being my 2 highlights.

In “Atlanta Robbin’ Season,” two cousins (Donald Glover and Brian Tyree Henry) work through the Atlanta music scene in order to better their lives and the lives of their families. Yesterday's episode about the piano was bat**** crazy. Season 2 has been superb so far, nothing really like it on tv at the moment

I only just found this show and I'm delighted, best show I've watched in a while. Episode 7 of Season 1, with the Montague TV channel has me in knots

Burning through the episodes. Some of the comedy is very much in the 30 for 30 & Community vein, you can see Glover is not just a very good comedy writer, but writer in general. Big fan of the man, like somebody said earlier in the thread, he's multi-talented.

This starts on BBC Two in the next few days - it's on at about 11.00 PM and they are showing two episodes back to back.

I'm white, middle aged and hate hip-hop, can I watch it?

Just finished season 2. Great show, hard to define it as it can switch genres. It is so well done. Surprised more people don't watch it.

I'm whizzing through season 2, it's definitely moved away from the story of Paperboy but that hasn't been a detractor really.

The Barber episode had me in hysterics, the Piano episode had me freaked as fúck and the Paperboy in the woods episode was top notch also - very simple episode to shoot I'd say and yet it still had brilliant production value.

This show is on a different level with regard to how it blends feels & fun.

Just watched the Teddy Perkins episode

    WHAT THE F

Am actually just catching up on season 1.. on the Biebs episode now.

    Just finished Season 2.

    Thoughts:
That Teddy Perkins episode fúcked me uppp, that was seriously odd, as odd as you would see on mainstream television. Creepy as hell. Definite Michael Jackson vibe going on there, a bit David Lynch at times. I was actually scared.

Earn & Van's relationship is very real and has many layers to it, I really like the way they have portrayed it on the show. They both clearly care for each other, they both make mistakes, they're both hypocrites, they both say and do hurtful things. I've been heartbroken a few times watching it develop over the two seasons.

Paper Boi tune is dope, as is the cover featured on season 2 by Bryce Hitchcock. I don't see a full version of the song anywhere though, please tell me they recorded a full track? I know it's Glover's brother rapping but I haven't seen it anywhere.

The show is ridiculously funny and I could see myself watching random episodes if it's on tv. Short run time helps this a lot.

We all need a friend like Darius

P.S I'm in love with Van.

Can't wait for Season 3, though I'm late to the party with this one so I think some people will have been waiting a lot longer than I have.

I watched the first season of this a while back and I just don't get the appeal. I'm not saying it was bad, I just found it watchable but very average overall.

I watched a few episodes of this series, hit and miss mostly but this was superb. If you're a horror fan its a must see, can be watched as a standalone.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,190 ✭✭✭ThePott

Agreed, haven't kept up with the series but that episode was phenomenal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,596 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Not too sure what to make of this, season so far. Episode 1+4 were very Black Mirrorsh in style and were good to watch but its two episodes so far without the main cast which isn't ideal. Episodes 2+3 were brilliant

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,555 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

Bit of a mixed bag so far but a few excellent episodes.
