Hey guys,

i'm looking for urgent help! i'm 21 years old and first got my period when i was 10, since then i have had constant problems, from irregular bleeding to constant bleeding to none at all. Doctors tried me on pretty much every pill available but none seemed to regulate them at all. When i was 18 they began to get a lot worse. The pain was (and still is) unbearable! Id wake up in sweats during the night from them, physically sick, sitting down hurts. I have been to the doctors uncountable times and still no let up from them. I'm in debt from private doctors and gynecologist that have done absolutely nothing for me! My GP has given up on me, he said that i must let my hormones balance themselves.

I am beyond SICK of going up and down to doctors, spending nights in A+E, paying out money for tablets and doctor bills, i really REALLY need this to be sorted. Its beginning to scare me as i dont know why they are so so painful. Im afraid if it goes on any longer i might not be able to have kids etc.

Any advice or recommendations of a specialist, any advice welcome!!

We cannot give medical advice but try the women's clinic in the beacon. I have experience there and found them excellent. I don't think I can say more without moving towards medical advice but go and say what you want them to do eg the pill, coil, exploratory investigation etc

You will need a GP referral letter for the doctor you want, they won't take appointments any other way

OP, I can't give you medical advice but have a similar history so sharing in the hope you can take something from it.

I had very similar symptoms and had been to numerous doctors too who I felt thought I was exaggerating the pain etc.

In the end, I went to my doctor again on a day where my symptoms were at there worst. The doctor couldn't fail to see the sweating and the pain I was in. I also brought a log of how long my periods were lasting, the amount of painkillers I was taking, days off work etc so they could see the impact this was having on my life. They had no choice but to take it seriously then. It sounds crazy to have to do all that but it seems to be one area of medicine that doctors don't take seriously.

I insisted on a referral to a top gynaecologist. He then took me seriously and later I had an ultersound which let to a laparoscopy. I had immediate treatment, followed by hormone injections. The impact was immediate. I still have pain at times but it's mild compared to what is used to be an my periods have reduced from lasting 2/3 wks to one.

Many people will tell us it usually takes years for a diagnosis. 12 in my case. The gyn was great for the physical side of things but I also went to the well woman clinic who were very helpful dealing with PMS as I used to suffer badly.

Push for more help. I know you shouldn't have to but it seems to be the only way to get the right treatment.

Sorry so long but just want to let you know you are not alone. It's horrific and very frustrating but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Alongside getting the right medical help, can I just suggest looking at your diet to make sure alls well there. While I can't advise on specifics, the usual would apply, cut down/eliminate sugar, caffeine, fizzy drinks (diet or not) and eat lots of fruit and veg, it's worth a try!
