Neck or face tattoo's

Im not for or against tattoo's but i do wonder if these tattoo's affect the persons career opportunities. If i was hiring for a job which is customer facing i dont know if i would hire somebody with v visable tattoo's. I know its illegal to discriminatate but it would be impossible to prove

Have you have these tattoos. Do you think they affect career prospects or is the world more accepting now.

I suppose for a role that is customer facing it might be an issue , but in reality more and more people have become more accepting of tattooing , piercings etc. and often would give no more than a glance.

Was in post office earlier today and a lad aged about 55 i reckon was getting his dole in front of me with a gape of face tats.
I was thinking he looked virtually unemployable except for a building site, but he didn't have the physique of a lad that would much labouring!

Wear a polo neck ,no one knows u have a neck tatto.
The only people i see with face tattoos, are russian gangster,s ,people on tv, people who work in tatoo parlours .
rugby players , or people from new zealand.
I just do,t think you,ll get in a bank or as a receptionist ,in a hotel,
if you have face tattoo,s .

Personally a big no. But if people want to get them, well It's a free country. I heard that the UK police are thinking about allowing applicants with neck and arm tatoos - I'd be against it for the police forces. Can't people have a tatoo in a discreet place?

It isn't actually illegal.
I would not hire anyone with visible tattoo's. Nothing against them particularly but in client facing roles it is unprofessional imo.

A doctor is in a customer facing role. The OP said they wouldn't hire them if they have tattoos like it makes them useless or something.

I think there is a perception of people with tattoos like another post said they were unemployable by guessing he was collecting his dole and they belonged on a building site.

So if you were dying, would you think anything less of a doctor who has tattoos?

Bit of a silly example. If you are dying you'd probably take whoever you could get, even if they have a plastic stethoscope and have misspelt their own name on their name badge.

I think people who have full face tattoos are probably not going to opt for mainstream or conventional job roles anyway. Personally, I don't like tattoos of any description. Never had one and never will.

Anytime I've considered getting a visible tattoo, I just think of myself as a pensioner and it usually has a self-correcting effect.

Agreed......that Chakotay fella got a plum job on a starship. Just under the boss as well if I recall.

Just goes to show there's opportunities out there - not just in tattoo parlours, but also on spaceships and s***e TV shows.

I'm sure I'm not doing justice to some people who have them, but most neck/face tattoos look rough as hell. I've seen some that are a bit neater or even a little stylish but for example a big f*** off dragon's head on the side of your neck says I stab people for a living. Or at least I've been a total muppet at some point in my life. I know thats not necessarily true, but thats the message most people would see. And considering that you restrict yourself almost immediately to certain types of careers like bouncer, footballer, criminal - and there aren't so many Firminhos around - the message wouldn't be too far off either.

Personally I'd have a preference for a doctor capable of good judgement, which is kind of important when a person is making life and death decisions on a minute by minute basis. Somebody with a face full of tats in my opinion, is not sombody that thinks things through very carefully or displays a capacity for good judgement. Have you ever seen a doctor with a face full of tats?

There are several grounds on which it is illegal to discriminate (age, gender, religion etc). But having tattoos is not one of them.

I think if you're stupid enough to get your face tattooed then you probably deserve the discrimination. Neck tattoos aren't much better.
