Board Game club/meetup for kids?

I've got little people who are very devoted fans of board games - Catan Carcassonne, Munchkin, Forbidden Island & King of Tokyo being their regular favourites. I'd love for them to be able to game with other kids who really enjoy similar gaming hobbies, for fun and socialising.

Does anyone know of any young kids gaming group in easy distance from Blanch?

If you find one locally please let me know -

There are two in city center that we visited - one near the National Concert Hall was good (and free) but more suited to teenagers/adult - and also Gamers World on Jervis street had lots of games you rent for a token price (euro or two) and a big room and tables to set them up on.

One locally though would be better.

I haven't had any luck as yet, and mine lot are just too young yet to bring into adult groups - it wouldn't be fair on anyone really! I didn't know about Gamers World having space for playing, that's very interesting thanks

Ideally I'd love to have something local that they could attend on a midweek evening, and if I can find a few other interested families I'd consider setting one up.

There used to be a games club in a community centre near Mountview church (sheelin Rd?) but it was a good few years ago since my son played there. Have you tried at the library btw? If they don't have one they may make a room available if you want to start one yourself.

Aye that was several years ago, a family member of mine was involved in its setup but I believe after she moved out of D15 it didn't continue. And I will pop to the library and see if they have anything similar going on.

My munchkins are younger than the profile of that original D15Gamers group, and personally I'm not as well versed in the broader spread of games they used to run, however I do learn well on the go

I have a small (growing!) collection of games and will start doing a bit of research into a space to begin to play after the Summer, and if other families come play with us, we could look to make something regular from it.

I got a response today from the place on Shelerin Road to say they currently have no games night running - I asked them to let me know if they bring it back.

I'll PM you details of the other community center and we can see if can sort something out - I've worked with them before to put on an event and its a great venue.

I have one too -13 year old mad into the likes of Risk, Boss monster, pandemic, hidden paradise, ticket to ride etc. We are based in Bray if anybody know of any around here or we don't mind travelling. The library was great during term and they would go in and play but he is missing it like mad now that they are on holidays.

They meet tuesdays - we met with them and there was a very good crowd with lots games to play - "ticket to ride" you mentioned was played on one table but our favorite of the night there was "Betrayal at House on the Hill"

I'll post any updates if we get the go-ahead for a D15 venue.

I will check it out thanks. My son was only explaining that game to me last week! I love ticket to ride. Was in Australia when I first played it and loved it so much I made sure it fit into my case coming home. Have you heard of Coup - that's another one of mine. Son can't lie for the life of him so we always know he has what he says he has!

Oh thats another we have in our wee collection! But mine are a bit young and they get spooked by just the box so we rarely get to play it

Ozmo, I sent you a PM and then an email, so keep an eye for those.

I'd like to maybe arrange an informal gathering for running a few games in a local community space. Describing it as informal, I mean us parent and our kids coming along together, because creating a formal group will take some time and it would be good to see how it all might run before we would go ahead with paperwork and things like vetting and training to facilitate making a safe club that would allow involving children without a parent needing to be constantly present.

But with enough interest, arranging a formal gaming club is very doable, and it has been done successfully in the past with the D15gamers group.

So - we have a venue! - Foroige in Blanchardstown Village, have said we can have one of their rooms for one evening for a once off event to see what the interest is like - there will be no cost for the venue.

Plus they said they could run a TableTop/Board Games event weekly as part of their winter schedule of events.

So - now we just need a list of who's interested - Please PM me if you have interested teens in either attending or if you wish to help out - and we can arrange a suitable day between us.

I don't think the first night would be a problem as we are organising it - so we could set it to 8 to 18 maybe ?

After that Foroige have their own age limit and catchment area if they were to run the event for us- but we can discuss when we meet with them it might be flexible-
can anyone meet me there an evening this or next week?

Cool, my eldest daughter is 8 and i think she'd like it.

We're away all next week though but i'll keep any eye out here for updates and I'm happy to help out if needed also! I work full time though so hopefully can make it in the evenings!

Fair play Ozmo, you've been busy while we were on holidays, forest walks by day and board games at night, a perfect Nerdy kid break

Anyway I would love to bring my older pair along for our one off night, and I'll bring along whatever games from our selection might be suitable.

My girls are probably going to be too young for a Foroige run group, just for now, but that doesn't put me off wanting to be involved and I'll contribute time in the hopes that there might still be something running by the time they reach the minimum age.

Oz, let me know what evening you want to meet up and I'll keep it free.

I think it's a bit different now from what I originally thought it was, but I think that was misunderstanding on my side .. just wanted to clarify , are other parents wanting a drop off club for their kids to meet other kids or something to do with their kids? Just so we are clear on
