Official Conor McGregor thread (part 2). Read warning in 1st post

The last thread was nearing the 10k post limit so here's part 2.

The same rules as the last thread apply here. People seem to have strong opinions either way when it comes to McGregor and threads here tend to get a bit heated from time to time. Please keep it civil and discuss all things Conor in a mature way.
Any name-calling, trolling, baiting, or being a general ass-hat will earn you a ban from the thread and possibly the forum.
If you have an issue with a post, please use the report post function. Any off topic posts will be deleted.
Any "Do you even train Bro?" or "I'm an mma fan longer than you" type posts are not permitted either. They only make you look like a fool and as a result, everyone hates you. Yes everyone.

That'll certainly lead to a rift between Dana, Conor and the owners then. They can let Dana call all the shots he wants but when it comes to Conor and Ronda, they need to handle that themselves. They're in a more powerful position than everyone bar the owners themselves. I'd say they'll let Dana walk before they fall foul of either of them.

That's what they are built on though.

They seem to have a direct line to Dana most of the time. There is only 1 quote from Dana though and it implies that he is just ruling out an immediate rematch.

Mostly lurk here but don't post.
Probably one of the most tense fights I have watched.
I'm not a big MMA fan but follow McGregor all the way.
Fair ****s to him for taking a huge risk and overcoming this.
Rising to the challenge considering how much stamina Diaz has.
Respect to both fighters IMO for providing a thrilling match up.
For McGregor it could elevate him up to another level I didn't think he was capable off. I actually thought he was going to loose before the fight but looks like he took all the lessons he learned and the hard work and graft paid off.
The ball is in his court and it's only fair he drops back down in weight class. From reading some of the posts in the last few days especially pro Diaz there hasn't been much consideration of how natural weight and unnatural weight gain has an impact on each individual fighter.
Diaz is just naturally the bigger guy. His bone structure etc.
Think it's some achievement to up to that weight class and beat him the second time around in the manner in which McGregor done.
Anyway just my two cents.

I'd generally put more faith in the likes of Ariel and that.

Fair play to McGregor, I had my doubts going into this one but he was able to take the shots, not get taken down except for the final minute and chip away throughout the 5 rounds.
I think what won the fight for him was his defence on attempted take downs and that he knocked Diaz down 3 times. I wasn't expecting Diaz to be on the canvas apart from when he got into some BJJ after a take down....but that never happened.

As for what next, I can see the reasons for not wanting to fight Aldo. I don't think the weight is an issue, it's the whole thing about whether Aldo shows up this time. I'd say he would though given he has his own demons he needs to resolve given that McGregor ruined his movie release.
I also don't think McGregor should go immediately for a title at 155, maybe get Dos Anjos out of the way first. I just hope he doesn't move away from MMA for paydays, and hopefully he's not ruled out with this ankle injury for a susstained period.

Kudos to Diaz though, chap is a warrior.

i don't have much interest in the aldo rematch to be honest. i can't see aldo taking many (or any!) of those lefts without dropping. if it ain't in the first 13 seconds, it will be sometime in the first or second round. also that fight took what a year to finally happen with the delays and pullouts? conor owes that guy nothing. much prefer to see conor getting busy in the LW division, his proper weight.

Standard suspensions, can be cut down considerably by visiting a doctor and getting the all clear.

Regarding whether McGregor owes Aldo anything, that is simply not a factor in the fight, regardless of what Conor says. There are currently two belts at 145, and management have said they want to unify, either by fighting or vacating.

I know a lot of people have said that McGregor can't make 45 anymore, but he's never missed that weight, so I think he could make it, but doesn't want to do that cut anymore, and Aldo is a handy scapegoat

Rogan is incredibly biased always, regardless of whether McG is fighting. He is incredibly frustrating at times and more often than not you're better off turning off the commentary. I also felt he was biased towards Diaz and I'm no McG nuthugger.

I think time will tell what the story is with Dana and his power but to me he does seem a bit lost at sea these days.

McGregor's run to the title shot was no different to anyone else's run to the title around that time e.g. lamas or mendes. Also couple that with the fact Aldo had pretty much beaten everyone in the division anyway and Conor was the obvious choice.

I understand why he thinks he has a say, I understand why UFC allowed him a say in going after RDA and Diaz rematch, but I think that UFC 200 has shown us that if the UFC don't want Conor to have a say, he won't. They may allow him to fight Alverez and try to hold two belts, but it won't be Conors decision, even if its his wish

That was a completely different UFC to what we have now after the take over, realistically they cant **** around with there cash cow after spending 4 billion on the company, what Conor wants he will get imo.

I'd have him straight in at number 2, below Khabib but above RDA. That's my take on it, be interesting to hear what everyone else thinks his position should be. There can be no argument for him to be below 4th though, since Diaz is at that spot and he's just beaten him.

He's not fought at lightweight in the ufc so I'd rank him nowhere.

McGregor will have to serve a minimum two-month fight suspension until 20 October, with no contact training permitted until 5 October.

The injury may rule McGregor out of an appearance at UFC 205 in New York, scheduled to be held on 12 November.

Would he be willing to compete with only a month and a half of training?

Not sure I agree with that..Diaz was way heavier than a typical LW would be in the octagon at around 190lbs. And Conor was on the lighter side at around 167lbs. That's if you're willing to believe the numbers quoted by both.
