Funny you should mention - the Spiegel ran an article yesterday about parishes of all denomination (Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopalin) experiencing a revival these days with Christian refugees arriving. And apprently, they're having never-before-seen numbers of adult Muslim refugees wanting to be baptised. A number of them from places like Iran and Irak fled specifically so they could become Christian, which wouldn't have been possible for them at home.

Yes you are right the question should be asked however what some poster me included was the way the OP phrased the question bu equating machete wielding nuts to been a Syrian or refugees.

Now to answer the OP question.

Would I welcome machete wielding not into my neighborhood? No be the Eurpean, American Middle Eastern or anywhere.

Would I welcome a Syrian? Yes
Would I welcome a refuge? Yes
Would I welcome a Muslim? Yes (As I welcome anyone from any religion, country or race)

Edit were there not a machete nut around the Smithfield fair a year or so ago. From what I remember they were Irish

In answer to the question :Would I welcome a Syrian? Yes-I would be polite to them and assist them if the need arose if that's what welcome means here . I would do so for anyone .
Would I welcome a refuge? As above
Would I welcome a Muslim? As above . I have reservations about their beliefs and the teachings of their holy books and would prefer a secularist muslim neighbour to a neighbour who believes in sharia law for example .

id have no problem welcoming syrian refugees to my parish , so long as they were vetted in some way .

i do think the Germans open door policy was complete lunacy . there should have been some form of vetting done before allowing that many in .

i do believe 99.9% of them are just decent people trying to survive and live their lives in peace but the problem is that 0.1% who are just allowed to walk in and wreck the place

Merkel's open invitation to millions of refugees was not liked by many in the EU. Ok they were going to Germany and that's fine.

But.... some (not all obv) saw this as a Trojan Horse opportunity.

I am not 100%sure but I believe Canada is the only country that vets people claiming to be syrian refugees. They can access the Syrian passport database or something like that. You can't vet someone who tells you they have no papers either .

How about we just downgrade ALL "mainstream" religions to the equivalent of Jedi.. That includes removing any constitutional or legal recognition or privilege, charity or financial benefits they may receive, etc.

Basically you can believe whatever you want but that's as far as it goes. Religion and the arguments and wars fought over it or in its name have led to the persecution, torture and killing of millions and while most of the rest of the world has moved on, we have a significant minority still fighting their "holy war" against the "unbelievers" with devastating results

Time to stop worrying about hurting their feelings or "equal rights" and treat them with the same level of respect as common murderers or drug dealers. Recognizing this cabaal as terrorists only validates (in their mind) their status of righteous crusaders.

Unpopular maybe but the current softly softly can't be discriminating against them approach isn't exactly a success is it?
