Returning to normal

TV3's retrospective on Philip Cairns was badly received on twitter due to its title, Philip Cairns - Fresh Evidence, though almost all TV3 docs tend to be retrospectives. I suppose people not familiar with the story of his disappearance might be interested.

TSOCS had 60,000 viewers for Tuesday night episode. With Big Brother on Sunday getting 61,000

Fr Ted on RTE2 had 79,000 viewers with Home and Away on 67,000 (but it was possibly postponed, Alf didn't make the cut).

Much the same in England, where BBC creamed ITV by a 5:1 margin - Giles's last match helped, and people will generally default to the main broadcaster if they have a choice. Odd that Portugal-Wales rated 50% better again than Germany-France.

Ofc BBC's dominance can be partially explained by having no ads.

Am I right in thinking TV3's studio pundits are all English? Perhaps preferable for premier league coverage, but I imagine most Irish prefer the experience of home punditry for international tournaments.

They had the Rep Of Ireland manager - Martin O'Neill along with Kevin Kilbane (ROI) and Neil Lennon (NI).
Should have went with Martin Tyler and Alan Smith if the option was there for commentary.

As UTV Ireland is sold to Virgin Media I expect Red Rock to increase its audience phenomenally. I wonder if it will be signed of on by September.

I can see UTV Ireland becoming 3U. Though as a whole they will be down 2%.

Don't forget that TV3 is in terrible quality SD on Saorview and is only available in HD on Sky if you have a HD sub, otherwise terrible quality SD. So I suspect most people would tune into RTE for superior picture quality.

Tv3 should also get a boost from this when it return, if it does well in England it must be good enough for the irish

To split The Sunday Game 4pm match into first half and second half in the ratings seem odd.

I can guess exactly why it happened - they ran the Nuacht and News with Signing during the half time break. (The Nuacht suffered an unfortunate incident with its opening titles, incidentally.)

TG says TV3 for ITV

Catchphrase its top show with 136,000 viewers, Catchphrase the worst gameshow from ITV.

Tonight with VB averaging 86,000 viewers
Big Bro averaging 70,000
no sign of either Xpose or The 7 O'clock show!

RTE2 has fallen back again its top show getting 133,000 aptly titled Now You See Me followed by the sunday game. repeats of Reality Bites shows getting a viewer or 2.

The main problem that UTV had was its daytime and weekend schedules. UTV Ireland needed really just a nightly show outside the soaps to achieve 100,000 in the top twenty to gain 10% (and the same is true for TV3).

For UTV Ireland all they needed to do was to put the news out at 8pm Monday to Wednesday, Thursdays at 7:30 and Friday at 8.
