Milk Price- Please read Mod note in post #1

Recently we saw three posters close their accounts over disagreements in the dairy threads. While there is a lot of frustration and discontent with current milk prices and the processing industry, the recent tendency for dairy threads to become tit-for-tat arguments isn’t tolerable for those not involved.

All farming sectors go through difficult periods and during such times there may need to be changes in how threads are moderated.

Dairy threads are going to be more closely monitored and subject to stricter moderation for a while.

To that end we won’t tolerate baiting of posters, constantly reviving old arguments, posters with agendas or crusading for a cause.

Whether it’s discussion of the business or politics of the dairy or other sectors, we expect civility and tolerance toward each other and other opinions as diversity of opinion is needed as a source of different ways of looking at a situation.

Also please be aware that what you may post as light-hearted banter can be read totally differently by someone adversely affected by the subject matter and evoke a reaction you hadn’t intended.

The ‘Off-Season’ forum, and its anonymous posting, is available for anyone to chat about their situation.

I was wondering would it be a help if we posted our milk prices. I would hope that if someone is low that help could be given, on the other hand if high perhaps your tips could help us all.

I would suggest posting your processors base inc Vat for comparison
Post your Nett price for others to help or be helped
I think that solids should be included.
I suggest any seasonal/liquid contract price be excluded or seperated.

I feel that we as farmers do a lot of bitching about processor prices and rightly so IMO. I also feel that we should not worry about it as we can do nothing about base price but we certainly do something about it at farm level.

What do you all think?

The ironic thing is that probably is as far as most Irish people's opinion of the Chinese goes ha.

I'm sure they are a great bunch of lads and so are the Russians. Just why do we have to boycott the Russians and not the Chineese? I'm not trying to be smart but seeing as it is apparently effecting the price we get paid for milk? Why are the Russians considered worse than the Chinese?

It's the Russians who have boycotted us. And they are on the road down to self sustainably for food now. But agreed fully, stories like you quoted are scary altogether, however when there is a trade deal and mega bucks on the table all morals seem to go out the window.

I thought the Eu stopped buying something from them first then they stopped buying dairy produce from us and we got punished for something that had nothing to do with us? From what is reported you are correct and we have shot ourselves in the foot as they are reportedly becoming self sefichant.

Interesting how the use of Gm feed is being questioned. Do we have an alternative? And at what cost? Certainly kerrygold looks like a brand worth protecting

looks like milk price is on the way up over in the uk spot price running at over 25p a litre and cream skyrocketing, some of the coops already play some dirty tactics such as droping b litre which have been linked to the price of the spot market.

Crops jumped up 5-10£ ton across the board.

Im sure some of it is due to the drop in the pound but also production is well down on the last few years. Something like 1million litres a day down and falling. Imprts of milk and produce from ireland are more expencive with the currency were it is leading to supermarkets buying more british products

There is normally a lull for a few days between getting milk cheque and price being announced for the next month

Too much moaning on here now. Before when you looked at the milk price thread it had your milk price and coop base price. Now it's all these long posts with people just waffling. Quite annoying.

I agree. I just want to know what other guys are producing, their solids, and if they're exceptional how they're doing it so I can learn. Dawg's post on feed are always illuminating. I no longer use distillers on grass anymore.

I was 1 of the few that used to post price, solids, yields etc in hope that we could have a comparsion between co ops & how different sytems were working, but I couldn't be bothered my arse anymore

In fairness when this thread was opened milk price was very good. Alot has changed since then, including the intoduction of msa's. Alot of people-including me- use this thread to vent. Apologies

In fairness if we are allowed moan about milk price then I think anybody who promoted harvest 2020 can't complain about getting a mention. Like it or not wasting farmers money on overpriced and under used processing capacity is ultimately having an effect on milk price.

I guess the drop in demand coinciding with massive levels of over production had nothing to do with it? :rolleyes:

Lot of guys got agitated here in last few months, not sure was it roaming posters or price pressure which I can't understand. Processors, gov, farm lobby groups and ourselves as sheep to a lessor extent imo are all culpable in what has happened. But it's interesting to question these subjects. Base price is affected by all these internal and external factors, hence "milk price thread". The more posters on here adds to the debate.
