Maybe they can have a read of Donald Trumps "the art of the deal" and negotiate a better deal from a position of weakness than they could from a position of strength.

And maybe they can do deals with the commonwealth countries and not need to deal with the EU
OK the trade with those 52 countries combined is less than their trade with Ireland currently and they have had several hundred years to negotiate those , but I am sure that in the next two years with the same resources and people they will turn it around and do really well.

I'm sure they will be fine. There are countries not in the EU and do fine i.e. Norway. They will still be in the single market. They just won't have to bend to German or French unlelected mandarins in the dual parliaments in Brussels/ Strasbourg. telling an electorate that the world will end this morning if you voted a certain way was the dumb move. The electorate saw through that.

Not sure Norway is a good example as they are essentially held to the same rules as the rest of the EU and pay in the same fees to get access to the single market but just do not have a say as they are not a member.
To give up your Veto and voice for the same deal would appear to be a pretty bad deal

The EU has been in crisis for some time. Political union was never going to be possible. The UK skipped the euro and that didn't fare out too badly.

Suspect many who voted for out were just disgruntled voters who voted against the incumbent government. Who knows.

The EU handled this badly from the start. Taking a tough line with uk negotiators, leaving Cameron with little to appease the sceptics. those negociations didn't work out too well within? The German/French holding the axis of power which is not healthy.

When the pendulum is swaying too much one way ie liberal, it swings back with equal vigor the other way ie to the right and inwards. It's happened before and it will happen again.

Britain already has an extraordinary arrangement with the EU and were promised even more concessions to remain. No other country has more opt-outs than the UK. At some point though you have to draw a line and can't keep granting preferential treatment to rogue members.
