Yes a cracking flying display in eagles flying. The aquarium in Bray is a great place for photos of species you won't normally see. The only thing is you can't use a flash. I haven't posted all the photos as yet. Took a week off to go out and get some photos. Who knows where I'll end up tomorrow.....

This fella ( pipistrelle bat ? ) flew into the Father in Law's conservatory a few days ago here in Kerry, after checking the correct way to bring it outside it was duly carried safely and placed next to some trees before it crawled away under cover, not seen again ( white matter on wings are cobwebs )

anyone know what these guys are? they're swarming all around the pond at the moment, i assume they're there for mating, but was wondering if they lay their eggs in the water?

I love Collared Doves, I have a particular affinity with them that I'm not going to bore people with! But I have never come across a nest till last night. Visiting friends in their fairly suburban garden we were proudly shown a dove sitting on its very flimsy and tiny nest in a Rowan about ten feet over the garden decking.
All garden activity is ignored including boisterous grandchildren ...
We were told that they had a previous nest in an adjoining copper beech and two youngsters hatched but during a particular nasty thunderstorm the fledglings were abandoned and unfortunately both died.

They have nested in my garden every year for the past 8 years.

I observed this Rook stretch its wings out over the top of a chimney pot which had smoke billowing from it. It's thought they do this to help rid themselves of parasites such as mites and lice (it's also a nice way of keeping warm on a cold, damp day of course).

A sad sight (for me) raised bog with cut-over bog. In kildare only 6 breeding curlew this year. Down from 8 pairs last year. At two sites which had curlew breeding last year, curlew have abandoned the sites due to disturbance from domestic turf cutter.

The turf cutting has largely ceased in this area, but sadly some landowners still persist with this practice.
I heard a Curlew here only last week.
