Safe Spacers' Triggered over building name

A row erupting over naming a building after a scientist, awarded the nobel peace prize for his 1962, for describing the structure of the double helix.

But he said some things and the safe spacers are now protesting.

It's like the guy with the shirt all over again.

What contributions have the safe spacers made to science? Will they be expecting a building named after them?

Yes he contributed to academia, but he also a horrible person. Don't compare it to Matt Taylor, a completely innocent man wearing a tacky shirt.

This scientist said somethings 10? years ago that some people didn't like. Was he proven wrong or right?

He uncovered the structure of the double helix, something that will long be used and remembered after the safe spacers complete their humanities degrees. They can't do science themselves, so focus on shirts and other stuff, hurr, durr, we're just as important. Unless you've discovered something equally import for humanity, no you not...

He said some stupid, ignorant things - hardly grounds to dismiss his entire body of work, and deny him due recognition.

At least they're naming the building after someone who contributed more than a fat cheque to the university.

I dunno about the first thing, but the others are hardly that bad. Some people are in favour of "designing your own baby", and it would be great if all boys were handsome. Meh.

Watson made some incredible contributions to science, so can't see why there is any outrage about naming a building after him.

As an aside, I did see him speak once, and can confirm he is an absolute bellend. Comes across as very misogynistic and petty, with an axe to grind about past grievances. But at the end of the day, there's no denying (or maybe there is, but that's probably for another thread) the contribution himself and Crick made to the world of science.

That's a silly thing to say really.

If they don't want the building named after him because he was a big mean racist misogynist or whatever then that's up to them to protest about. But it's nothing to do with safe spaces. Nobody will feel less safe because a building is named one thing rather than another will they?

Back in the day it was a piece of crap we used in web site design. Reputedly making a comeback with the animated GIF no less. Maybe it was just a spacer. that might be something else again of course.

AS for the OP if that is the worst of what he said then they need to get over themselves. Using Homosexuality as an example of a genetic abnormality was insensitive but unsuprising for a man of his age, they are basically complaining about Genetics embarrassing Uncle.
