What Whisky/Whiskey are we drinking this month?

I know there's a thread on recommending Whiskeys/Whiskys but there's none on general tasting as far as I can see.

Similar premise to the beer thread, but we'll say month instead of week as drinking a €50/60 bottle of Whiskey/Whisky a week is probably not a good idea...

I picked up a bottle of The Glenlivet Master Distillers Reserve on my travels recently. No age statement.

Not the most complex Whisky in the world. It's quite nice though, smooth and fruity, very strong taste of pears, and a tiny bit of spice. Drank with a splash of water.

Nice to see Crested 10 getting some love. I've long been of the opinion that it and Black Bush are far superior to most other "normal" Irish whiskey's.

I know one bar near me where Crested 10 is cheaper than standard Jameson. Which I discovered when I asked them did they have any good whiskeys. The barman was very proud of it, and delighted someone was drinking it.

Bought a couple of bottles of crested 10 - one for the whiskey collection as it's about to rebranded as "crested" - opened one last night and really like it - lovely sherried tones - far superior to standard Jameson in my view . Plus local Supervalu are selling it for 30 at the moment - it's 36 normally.

It's now on special in O'Briens for 27 - grab it while you can

I've been trying to find an English language outlet to moan at WorldDutyFree Spain because I suspect the UK twitter wouldn't know what to do; but I doubt they'll do anything. I want my cheap whiskys even cheaper dammit!

I travel a lot and have picked up a few travel exclusives (none of which have an age statement) for around 50 alright, which would be my budget. I wasn't going to buy anything this trip, but 20.70 is far too good to turn down.

Probably too late but Nikka From the Barrel is highly rated and reasonably priced in DUB.

I'm passing through Dublin airport and will have an opportunity to pick up something.

I've a small drop of redbreast 12 and green spot at home and was going to get a top up.

I've not tried any Japanese whisky, would it be a good time to pick up a Nikka in Dublin instead of going with the old reliables?

I visited the distillery a couple of years ago. I particularly liked the Sherrywood.

I'm sure Irn Bru and Ginger Ale (both laced with aspartame at that) would horrify most people as an accompaniment to anything with the Laphroig brand on it!

Still, even without duty free the two litres cost me about €60 in total - Copenhagen Airport is rather cheap. That is almost mixing whiskey territory price wise, and the Black Grouse was a bit better than that.

Was told try a speyside whiskey and work your way through the regions from that...
So try a Cardhu 12 year old
About 55 quid
It's lovely and smooth to drinking

I'm going to move onto a few islay and lowlands next and see how they go..

Otherwise try the generics bells Grant's grouse or teachers

Depends. Do you like peated whiskey? Lagavulin 16 or ardbeg 10 are outstanding, some of the best you will ever taste, if you like peated .

For a sweeter maltier whiskey, my go to is arran 14. Some blends are great also, I like monkey shoulder when out in a bar if I want a scotch thst won't cost a fortune.

There are the standard glenfiddich, bells, famous grouse but they never floated my boat. Famous grouse in particular I found awful, something I will never drink again.

There is so much choice thst it's best to try a few in a bar, see what you like and go from there.

Lucky sod....

Have the 12 and 15 YO at home. The whole Redbreast range is super, but haven't been able to make up a good enough excuse to get the 21. Had a measure of it a few weeks ago in town and it was incredible, want to get a bottle soon

Got a bottle of this myself a week or so back and completely agree. Had had a measure out in town before, but its lovely, very smooth and lovely flavour from it. Goes superbly with Black Barrel I think, another favourite of mine

Cardhu 12 year old speyside for me. Picked it up on the Costa for €24. I was in the duty free in Malaga earlier - It's whisk(e)y heaven there. I had already bought some Hendricks and a Torres 10 year old brandy, so had enough.
