We'll have our fingers crossed that they all make it through the Cats game. Should be interesting game next week.

I'd imagine though if there are Munster games that night they'll show one of them.

What do we think of Saturdays game? Anyone going?

Kilkenny are missing a few but even still they'll have no fear of us on the day.

I know the standard of the game against Wexford was criticised but i was quietly impressed with Dublin. They looked professional and well drilled. Not slick but the conditions were ****. Certainly surprised we're 100/30 outsiders on the back of that and considering KK haven't played yet. They're worthy favs alright but we're not rank outsiders imo.

In times past we've dropped the ball on their backs and had it handed to us. I'm interested to see how a shorter game works this time. I think we can take them for pace up front if we win enough ball. Thats the if though isn't it! They'll have big lads against little'uns in some positions and thats a worry.

Praying Conor Dooley has a good game. They're bound to pressure his puck outs.....a lot.

I hope I'm wrong. But I haven't seen a lot of flexibility in how we set up lately. I see little in our play that could compensate for when we are up against a halfback line in top of its game.
I think kk will need to have a bad day. That's the hope anyway.
I'm looking forward to the game I'm heading to it.

Why would the half backs come into it when Cunninghams plan is to bypass them? Dublin play a short game out to the 40 and then look to either hit our inside forwards or run the ball into scoring range. Assuming we're successful what exactly do the KK half backs do that stops us?

Am travelling in hope more than optimism but think we have a better chance than we are being given by the pundits. Which is a good thing. Dublin are poor favourites, as we saw against Limerick.

The puckout strategy is potential disaster area, no doubt. Cats identified that as Cork's weakness in 2003 and Rebels haven't been at the races hardly since!

Having said that, it was interesting that Dublin tended to go long against Cats in league - in fact I do believe Maguire might have been in goal?

It was strange game. Meant nothing in terms of league and I got impression that both Cody and Cunningham were arse boxing - throwing feints and testing a few things. Cody won't be taking Dublin for granted, that's for sure, so they will need to be at their very best. I'd give us a 6/4 shout.

I don't think the kk halfback line will be bypassed at all. I think they know our game and will move to engage early or cover deeper in a coordinated way. They will plan around it as it appears that is how we are going to play. I don't think we will be let run it into a very scorable range , I think we'll rely on Treacy to hit frees as I think kK will contest it further out.
A big game from Dillon would be required, I think we will need goals.
And like most the short game against kk worries me.
I also think the kk hb line will have a plan and will be switched in to the balls into the ff line.

But you're saying we're predictable. If thats true it breaks down for us on the short ball passing not being cleaned out by half backs. Absolute last resort for Dooley will be to launch it at McMorrow or Plunkett from the puck out.

We might get outmuscled by their HB's in general play but i can't see how our gameplan gives the edge to any decent half back line like you said.

Fair enough, I still don't see our forwards having the space to run into that they had the last day, I think that will be shut down.
I don't see the kilkenny hb line doing nothing while the ball sails over their heads.
We have been set up this way for a good few of the last games. Limerick did a nice job to limited a lot of our scores to frees. The goal opportunities were not as plentiful, wexford didn't or couldn't do the same.
The question is imo can a depleted kk do what Limerick did.

No matter what his shortcomings are tactically, Cunningham isn't going to magically coach skills into lads who lack them.

Think there's a lot of people on the interweb who have it in for cunningham because he dropped their pals from the panel IMHO

Personally I don't care who he has dropped off the panel. That's his decision and he has to make do with the players in his squad.

He has serious shortcomings when it comes to tactics and clearly can't get the best out of the players he has.

I don't expect us to be the most skillful team out there but getting the basics out of them, which these lads should have, should be the bare minimum.

We lacked any sort of intensity today, looked 2 yards off the pace and our touch was none existent.

Is it all on Cunningham?
Of course not, but if he can't put a coherent gameplan together and get the players to buy into it then he simply has to go. We were an omnishambles today and got beaten out the gate by a Kilkenny team that never got out of second gear.

The only possible good to come out of today, is that it will (hopefully) speed up Cunningham's departure. He is a piss poor man manager. We knew that from day one, but you could (almost) forgive it, if the results were there. Or if there is the evidence of a tactical game plan that can work. There is no shame in losing to the All Ireland champions, never mind feckin' Kilkenny, who came into the game, pissed off and with a point to prove after the league. But Jesus H. Christ, the short puck outs are a disaster. I can see us going no where under Cunningham and, it's clear the players are not buying into whatever he is trying to sell. The sooner we can move on from him, the better. Talk of people having vendettas against him are daft. Why on earth should we?

The short puck outs on there own were bad enough but when you combine it with kamikazi hand passing across the half back line it beggars belief.

Our inside forwards were starved of ball for most of the game because we spent far too long faffing around and dropping aimless ball on to the Kilkenny half backs.

When you see the stupid warm up routines before a game it's easy to understand why we persist with this crazy short game. I watched them recently and couldn't believe they spent about 10 minutes right before throw in playing what can only be described as piggy in the middle
