Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Has anyone received the signup form for EsatBT's residential DSL?
Did you notice there is an idle time out every 30 mins and you are also disconnected ever 24 hrs?

Does this happen on the Eircom service as a matter of interest?

nope, you can stay connected for as long as you like barring errors with eircom.

ive had no problems with eircom i stream 1mb line...no timeouts or errors....except that its financially ruining me...lol;)

Hmm - this 30 second idle time is a bit worrying. I was thinking of packing in iStream in a few months and trying Esat's package out. Those ping times don't seem to matter to eircom.

Well....the time outs aren't so bad, I mean with a 4GB cap you're not going to be running any servers, and come on, it takes less than a second to reconnect!

yeah, but its that *critical* second.... the score is 3 flags all in the final minute... you're carrying the flag, seconds from glorious victory, all your team members have spawned back at the base and theres one opponent left.... you frag him with a lightning blast... HEADSHOT! .... his head disappears in pink spray as fragments rain down on your power armour.... keeping with tradition, you hurdle his lifeless (and headless) twitching body... the flag is in front of you! theres 1 SECOND to go!!!! you reach out for the gesture taunt button as you race towards the flag and.... D'OH!!!!

Are you reading this properly? It times out after 30 mins of INACTIVITY. So if you're gaming you won't be affected :)

    But, but, but, Eth0_

It's supposed to be always on. EsatBT are acting the bollix doing this.

Ah well. It doesn't particularly bother me. Tell this to someone who cares :P

But it DOES disconnect ... even if only once per day... I don't WANT to be disconnected ever.... (although eircom have effectively just "disconnected" me since I moved to Foxrock, where they promised the exchange was DSL enabled... turns out they were lying as they now say it ISN'T!! AAAARRRGGGHH!)

If it does disconnect, Ring esat and complain. There is a piece of software that auto reconnects pppoa connections. Send me a pm with a email address and I will send it to you.

Why? They clearly state in the contract that it has an idle timeout.
A keep alive won't work. Of course they've thought of that. It's obvious.

So what your saying is that when you did have dsl you used it every second of the day?

This timeout wouldnt bother me at all tbh.

I actually haven't tried Esat DSL, i-Stream was pretty reasonable service (at an unreasonable price), but I did get occasional disconnects which almost always seemed to happen in games. Prolly one disconnect a day wouldn't bother me at all either if thats all it was :) For some reason i-Stream seemed to disconnect me often anytime I was uploading large files, and more than a few times in an hour while playing games... never did figure it out. Its hell on fast FPS games at times tho.

We've an Eircom ADSL line here in work... I'd say about 3 times a day it goes down, for a period of 5-30 seconds (and sometimes up to 2minutes)... very very annoying, i've no idea what hte reason is, but its definitely not an idle-timeout, a problem with our router or anything else at our end for that matter..
