    Ok.... Buffy - check
Babylon 5 vs ST - check

All we need now is a furious debate over any of the following and this board will be exactly like usenet:

    Internet Explorer vs Netscape
    Macs vs PC's
    Pepsi vs Coke
    Linux vs Anything
Britiny Spears - are they fake?
    - Is Aguliera (however the fup it's spelt) better?
    - Is she having a lesbian affair with Milissa Joan Hart?
    - can she actually sing?
    etc...

Just to be that extra controversial:
    IE5 rools!!!
    Macs sux a55!!!
    PEPSI MAX ROOOOLSSS JOOOO!!
    LINux BIT35
    BrItN3y I5 my FUTOR WIF3!!!!!1

    Sorry Regi, couldn't resist wink.gif

Cloud, the TV movies any good?
I'm not sure if they'd do it for me, cos what I really liked about bab5 was the ongoing story ark - standalone episodes startrek-style ****ed me off. Much better to stick to a rockin story, and actually do some character+plot development smile.gif

Im kinda getting to like Babylon 5 now...
I was never a trekkie but the Channel 4 showings are on a bit late on a sunday night...

I saw In the Beginning and it was pretty good - must get around to watching the other ones sometime.

Looks like its getting interesting though.

<stick>Yes I know, I first came out of the closet when I realised that if hated Buffy, I must therefore hate all women, even the ones who didn't have really annoying accents.
    TAKE ME WYVERNE!!!!</stick>

But lets talk about Babylon 5 and the fact that the graphics were/still are(?) done using quality Amiga hardare!

I *used* to like Bab 5. We had half the first series, most of the second, third and fourth series on tape in my last house. Then one of the guys proceded to watch it constantly for about a year. I got so sick of it that I can barely watch it now.

Anyway, it went down hill half way through the 4th series. The assult on earth was great though. I haven't seen the 5th series. I heard it was complete muck. And Crusade didn't seem that good either.

I've only seen the first TV movie. It's alright. Nothing great and you can poke a few holes in the plot.

As for it vs ST, well it trounces TNG hands down, DS9 improved greatly because of the competion from it, and Voyager, well Voyager is (and will always be) $hite.

Babylon 5 is a super piece of TV... I'm enjoying catching all the episodes that I missed first time around now it's on C4 late on Sundays. I saw "Passing Through Gethsemane" a little while back... What a stunning piece of scriptwriting and acting that was... Even when B5 isn't doing that whole great story arc thing, the standalone episodes beat pretty much every other show on TV into a pulp.

The TV Movies are good, particularly In The Beginning, which explains lots and lots about the Earth-Minbari war and so on. River of Souls and, uhh, the other one, are less interesting, being completely standalone, but are very good nonetheless.

    Ja,
    Rob

I think I'll try the movies alright - I did try Crusade, but I thought it was ********. I can't believe JMS wrote some of it.

I reckon the best guide to Bab5 on the net is at http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/lurker.html - fantastic stuff, but can really spoil the whole thing if you haven't seen it.

Anyone here from DCU? Does the SciFi soc (strange times?) still show Bab5 out there?

Well the biggest B5 addict lives in my house, and it's not me - I brought up my B5 tapes from home - he must have watched 3 seasons in about a week and a half...

A particularly memorable event was when I came home one Sunday and he was watching episode 20 of season 3, and then I came home Monday evening and he was at episode 16 or 17 of season 4 - WTF!!!! ADDICT!!!! 18 episodes in one day!!!!

  • Subscribers Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭Draco

God, yes, I can relate to that...the guy in my house used to work nights and when he came back, he'd watch the same 3 or 4 episodes EVERY FVCKING MORNING. the worst part was that my room had a common wall with the sitting room and he'd have it up so loud that I could hear it. I could tell what episode it was after hearing just a few lines of dialog after about a month of this.

Oh god. I have go have a lie down now. What a horrible horrible memory.

I dunno, I never really got into B5 cos it's not really as accessable as the trek.

Oh and celtic tiger, I know wink.gif

Well I liked the start of B5 ... but ye had to make too much of a commitment to followin the story ....so i dropped it.

DS9 which i initially disliked has got good .. and keeps an ongoing plot with standalone episodes goin very well, but you can't go far wrong with a big war theme.

Voyager ... well it has its moments ... though the ongoing plot of 'get home' doesnt make it too necessary to keep up with it.

I'm just confused with the amount of channels showin episodes from different seasons and all.

    Whats my point ...
