Just in curiosity to something said by WWM, I'd like to get some figures for religious beliefs in Ireland. 95% are Catholic? I don't think so, but I could be wrong.........

It'd be nice if people would vote as to how they believe now, not how they were baptised, and if only Irish people would vote. Brits and other countries would badly taint the results. Of course they may post their opinions tho............

    :)

(Anyone who wanted to vote Atari Jaguar is a muppet and can feck off)

    My beliefs are........ 63 votes

    Catholic
    0% 0 votes
    Protestant
    14% 9 votes
    Jewish
    1% 1 vote
    Hindu
    0% 0 votes
    Buddhist
    0% 0 votes
    General Christianity
    3% 2 votes
    Agnostic
    14% 9 votes
    Pagan
    25% 16 votes
    Aethist
    4% 3 votes
Believe in a God but...Have no time/Not decided on which one/am not too concerned right now

I choose none of the above cause they all require that you have certain beliefs and i can't make up my mind what i believe... changes with my mood.

That's called Agnostic you muppet :)

Boston - I'd have thought "Lapsed Catholic" would fall under the heading of "General Christian" or the last option....

Is it possible to be a devout agnostic? devout athesist I can understand.

Most agnostics I know tend not to enforce thier beliefs on others simply because of the nature of being agnostic.

At the risk of sounding immature,I'm a satanist.I have no problem with other religions and i don't believe the devil or god exists. It's more of a philosophy on life.

Satanism is also not inherently evil as many people believe.Old women actually give out to me over my appearance(well, this happened once or twice)!!I didn't even drink their blood and pleasure myself with their rotting carcass either :)

I had a good long talk with a "Satanist" once, after which i looked into it... imo ye don't have a clue what ye are, one side are saying much like yourself, the other are butchering goats, worshiping satan and all manner of not nice stuff :)

I looked up your commandments, again no fixed structure there either... most of em are similar enough, some very different... some have 9, other 13, 11 i don't know sort yourselves out gad dammit :)

You are tlaking about anton le Vey's satanism I assume. That is not what I mean. There is a derivitive school of thought which has nothing to do with this at all which is also called 'satanism',probably incorrectly.I'll mail you a synopsis if you are actually interested.

To be honest ,I don't really adhere to any code,I just have an interest in belief systems. This one makes more sense than the others :)

You are not the only one to comment on the confusing nature of satanism and its infinite different interpretations :)

I think it's possible for people to be 'devoutly' agnostic. It's a view of very strong open-mindedness, probably out of choice. Other beliefs - theism or atheism - are comparatively closed-minded.

Now I'm no expert on the subject, but surely a lack of belief in God or the Devil means you can't be a satanist?

I would have thought so too.....

A poll would only allow me 10 options, so I left out satanism, and all kinds of stuff like 'Lapsed Catholic' would fall into General Christianity imo. I also forgot an 'other' option (for muslin and islam for example), but seeing as there is no demand for it, it can be added at CT's discretion.

I was also gonna leave out Aetheism, cause like satanism, it's not a religion in the literal sense of the word, but seeing as most people are aetheist, I'm glad I did.

    :)

Lo again,No the 'satanism' in the name is completely misused I know,as it does have little to do with the devil or Satan at all.I didn't create the belief system though,so who am I to argue? :)

OK OK OK THEN I'LL BE A FECKIN AGNOSTIC!!! ALRIGHT???!!! AAHH

Don't care because life is too short for all this nonsense :)

I'm a devout Atari Jaguar. Well actually I'm not a devout anything. Even Atheism is a bit to rigid for me. I suspose agnostic is probably the closest, possibly buddism, some of what Christ said makes sense. Suspose I've got a bit of a pick and mix belief system.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,309 ✭✭✭✭Bard

I agree with amp (and Yurmasyurda) to some degree...

I'd be a devout non-believer in practically all religions out there.

The church has yet to be invented that I'd even consider placing my belief in.

Hedging your bets eh?? There's no atheists in the foxholes etc. etc. :)

Not hedging bets per say. I don't believe in a God or Gods, but certain ideas of certain religions do make sense.

A little from each column is the way I go too. Most religions have good fundamental ideas, ie be nice, work hard, eat well. But once they start forcing me to do stuff, they're out the door :D

    forcing to do stuff
    hand over money
    blind faith
worship some unseen being, or some twit in a fancy suit
    sacrifice beliefs, values, people, animals.

    What, no Jedi? :)

I voted agnostic though my "faith" was weakened somewhat on a recent trip to France. I was sitting beside a fairly well clued-in pagan on a very long train journey and he said some very interesting things. I don't really buy into the actual religion, gods et al but the basic pagan philosophies are actually pretty smart.

I also had my tarots read and they were exactly correct. No vague, sweeping statements at all. I was knocked for six.

    I'll go with Kinky Friedman
I'm a Jehovah's bystander. I think there might be a god, but I just don't want to get involved
Suspose I've got a bit of a pick and mix belief system
did you pay for it all or add to the bag after you'd weighed it ?
