Hey, There was another thread about data recovery already but I feel this case is different to that one.
I was reinstalling Windows XP because my computer had problems so I just decided I would format the disk and reinstall everything. However, I have a portable hard-disk also connected to the computer through USB 2.0. This portable disk is 40GB and has all my private stuff on it.
Now that the scene is set let's begin with the problem. You know the Windows XP setup program that runs on boot-up? I got to the part where I was messing around with the partitions and I erased the normal hard-drive partition but then accidentally erased the partition for my portable disk too. Obviously the data is still on the disk but is it that there is just no MFT?
Please....just help me....I had everything on that disk.

There are many other progs but Scavenger worked for a friend of mine.

on most linux boot CD's you can use the utility gpart to guess the partition
Whichever you use don't forget to backup the existing partition table just in case.

Hey, sorry I never checked back here. I was out of my house all day today and yesterday. I am managing to get the problem sorted as we speak. I stumbled upon a program called 'Recover My Files' and went out and paid the full license fee for it (€89).
As we speak, it's recovering all of my files and they are working. I feel elated!
