    I have.

It was one of those student nights where a hypnotist gets a dozen people on stage, hypnotises them and gets them to make a fool of themselves. I'm not sure why I did it, I guess I was curious to see if it worked.

    Did it work?

Yes, I suppose it did, but it was nothing like I expected. On some level you are aware of what's going on around you and what you're doing, but there is a very strong urge to just go with the flow and take in all the instructions. You're not some mindless zombie, it just feels good to do what's suggested. It's very hard to explain.

Yeah I tried it twice, the music and noises were really soothing so I just fell asleep the first time (had a few pints on me), and the second time the hypnotist moved me from where I was sitting to right beside my recent x, it was a bitter break up and he made me put my head on her shoulder (not knowing our history obviously) and I couldnt "let go". I was thinking about trying a private session though to make me give up smoking.

Tried google or the yellow pages?
I saw a psychologist do it to a couple of students once. It was pretty cool

I went up at one of those student shows, Zak Power I think, he asked everyone to lock their fingers and counted down from 10, then anyone who's hands were stuck was to go up, my hands weren't stuck but I pretended that they were to see if he could put me under. he figured that I was messing though and kicked me off the stage, but I was quite dazed, I would imagine that if I was up there for much longer, I'd have been under his influence.

Any see Darren Brown where he got some guy playing quake or something, hypnotised him, moved him to a room identical to the area in the game, put a gun full of blanks in his hand, woke him up, then sent actors dressed as zombies running at him. that'd freak me out.

Not my experience, but my wife was once put under in a bar (long long time ago before we met, so this is all 2nd-hand).
She was chatting with a guy and when found out that he was a magician, well (just like some of you lot) she just had to check if she would be/could be hypnotized. Turned out she was, and suffice to say he left her under for about 1h and a half during which -amongst many other things- she had to chase a leprecorn around the bar and all that... Supposedly, she wrecked the place in the process but the manager gave her a bottle of Champ', said it was the best entertainment he'd had in the bar in ages LOL  :D

That is exactly how I felt the time I got it done. Couldn't have put it any better.

The 'magaician' style hypnosis is all down to the expectation of the person being hypnotised. All that cobblers about 'you are a leprechaun' is purely down to the person being hypnotised wanting to perform the 'I am hypnotised' routine.

Hypnosis is actually like a state of deep relaxation / meditation whereby your subconscious mind can be retrained to lose bad habits / fears / neuroses. Your subconscious mind has a mental age of 4 apparently.

Anyhoo, this is the way the guy who hypnotised me explained it. Also, importantly, you can snap yourself out of hypnosis any time you want, you are awake and in control of your faculties, so nobody can make you behave like a chicken unless you want to!

Like most people, it was a student rag week thing. I had my hands stuck both years, and being the brave little boy that I was I went up the second year. Going with the flow is a good way to put it. And to be fair, you can't be hypnotised to do anything that you wouldn't do within your own boundaries anyway.

Speaking of, did anybody watch that Peter Powers bloke on Bravo "Street Hypnosis". Very funny, but some of the stunts were in poor taste, I thought. Some guy thought he was taking his driving test and accidentally knocked over a mannequin thinking it was a real person.

Do you think hypnosis would work for someone how has serious problems getting up on time in the morning?

If that person had a subconscious fear of getting up on time then maybe yes. If that person was just a lazy bastard then no!
