Sick Note?

I've been having severe toothaches these last few days. It feels like the pain is in my whole jaw, occasionally it will be my top teeth and other times my bottom teeth - sometimes it is hard to pinpoint. It happened a few months ago in a similar way but after a few days it kind of stopped and I foolishly just ignored it and prayed it had gone. The pain is after dying down a bit at the moment but I am not going to make the same mistake again.

It's been a long time since I've visited a dentist and obviously I have a lot of problems. I've probably been putting it up in fear, hoping that it would go away, but I am aware this is not possible and that things will only get worse. I will be going to the dentist as soon as I get paid on Thursday and will get a full checkup and come up with a plan for the next year or so to get all the necessary work done.

The pain at certain times was unbearable. It was the most excruciating pain I have ever experienced in my life. At times, I would not be able to have a conversation with someone and I would grab my jaw hoping for the pain to subside. I tried warm water with salt and painkillers to try and relieve the pain and they helped a bit.

I was out of work and college from Friday to Sunday as a result of this. Will the dentist be able to give me a sick cert when I visit Thursday? Or will I have to go to the GP to get one of those? I am hoping the dentist will be able to provide it as I don't really have an extra €50 to be going to the GP and would rather but that towards getting some dental work straight away.

Thank you, and apologies if this information is elsewhere, I couldn't find it.

tl;dr: Do dentists give sick notes?

Op we can provide sick certs, but only for the time you present at the clinic. Your dentist will not provide a cert for the period before you visit.

Also if you work you should get your dentist visit free if you've paid prsi at the right class. You need to give them your pps number in advance so they can check this. Tooth pain is the worst and if you have pain in your top teeth it can sometimes radiate into your bottom teeth and vice versa. I'm nervous so I take my earphones and iPhone with me and listen to music while the dentist is doing her thing. I actually cried the last time getting stuff done not through pain I don't know what it was... and the dentist told me to do this!

    Good luck

You only get it free if you have paid the necessary contributions, not just because you are working. That would not cover treatments though, nor a cert.

I did say that in my post

Not just the right class of stamp, but also for 5 years if you are over 25.

It never feels that you get anything free, as you will have to pay for X-rays and any treatment.
Always mad paying a high bill which includes a free visit :-)
