Knitting pattern help

    I am knitting a baby's Cardigan. Am a beginner so apologies for the basic question. It says inc 1 st at each end of 5th and every foll 12th row to 26 stitches. This is my 7 th row. What does it mean? Pls help me

    Suppose you cast on 20 stitches on row 5 you increased one at each end so you now have 22 stitches.
    Knit 11 more rows. On the following row, inc one at each end so you have 24 stitches. Repeat this again so knit another 11 rows and on the 12th row inc one at each end so you have 26 stitches.
    You're better off to write out each row before you start like this:
    Cast on 20 for example
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5 inc one at each end (22 stitches)
    6
    7
    8
    9
    10
    11
    12
    13
    14
    15
    16
    17 inc one at each end (24 stitches)
    18
    19
    20
    21
    22
    23
    24
    25
    26
    27
    28
    29 inc one at each end (26 Stitches)
    and then mark off each row as you do it.

    There are a couple of different ways to increase but the simplest is probably to knit in front and back

    hi i have just started a baby cardie i am not going by any pattern , just from my head i have started one side (rs) i cast on 52 st 3 3/4 needles doing a k2,p2. and then changing to 4mm needle knit one line and purl the other.
    that i all know how to do.
    what i do not know is how to shape.like to decrease for the neck and when to decrease this is going to be for a girl of 10 months to one year any help in this would be a blessing

    Trust me you would be better off with a pattern. I'm quite experienced and I still always use a pattern. The odd time I've modified one or put elements of various ones together. There are lots and lots of free baby cardigan patterns on Ravelry.com
