So the question is about the lotto.

We were talkin about the new "All or nothing" Lotto draw where there are 24numbers to pick from, and you pick any 12 numbers. The idea is to either get 12numbers, or get 0 numbers - both being the jackpot.

Someone said that this is harder to win than the ordinary lotto which has (correct me if im wrong) 46 numbers and you have to get 6 numbers.

    So the chances of winning the lotto jackpot is 46 x 45 x 44 x 43 x 42 x 41 (is this correct ?)

so can anybody clear up for me which draw is harder to win...

    Thanks !

I cant be bothered but you'd have to work out the chances of getting no numbers too. I'm guessing those odds are better than getting all the numbers

The odds of winning the Lotto are about 8.1 million to 1 and All or Nothing is around 1.35 million to 1

The chances of getting no numbers is exactly the same as getting all of them how would it be any different in both cases you need to match 12 from 24.

The chances of getting all 12 correct is circa 2.7m/1 and the chances of getting none is circa 2.7m/1, so your chances of winning the jackpot is circa 1.35m/1

If you have to pick 12 from 24, does that mean at best you are evens to just pick 1 number?

    12 12 12 12 12 12 12 12 12 12 12 12
    24 23 22 21 20 19 18 17 16 15 14 13
    0.5 0.52173913 0.545454545 0.571428571 0.6 0.631578947 0.666666667 0.705882353 0.75 0.8 0.857142857 0.923076923

Yes you pick 12 numbers between 1-24.

if you get all 12 you win the jackpot. if you get no numbers you also win. so the chances of them happening are the exact same

The chance of picking 6 numbers from 46 balls is -
    (46x45x44x43x42x41) divided by (6x5x4x3x2x1)
comes to 9,366,819 to be exact.

If you have to pick out the numbers in the exact order. That is first number out is your first number, second out is your second also etc etc, then it is -
    (46x45x44x43x42x41)
    comes to 6,744,109,680.

The lotto would never be won, ever.

To pick 12 from 24, same as top one
    (24x23x22x21x......) divided by (12x11x10x9x...)
    Comes to 2,704,156

Get all 12 right or all 12 wrong - same odds.
    Nice maketing though.
