    hey guys,
am having great difficulty with a movie i legally downloaded from a website. i currently own windows media player 10 but whenever i go to play said file i get this message: Secure storage protection error. Restore your licenses from a previous backup and try again. i have contact said site and they told me to change setings so that secret folders cud be seen etc but it has been of no use at all. if anyone can help me out i wud be very grateful.
    cheers

Unfortunately with their great foresight content providers have ensured it is easier to download and use the film "illegally" than legally.

My view would be that you are within your rights to download the film from a torrent site or similar.

I steer clear of DRM stuff myself so I'm not certain on this but if the hidden files and folders are shown shouldn't their be a license backup folder in my music or my video try deleting (or moving it) that and see if it tries to reacquire the liscense.

I'm assuming that the OP did try to acquire the content by Torrents, P2P etc becuase with the amount of crap with DRM, no-one in their right mind would use a "legal" service as the first option. I know I don't and it's exactly because of this sort of thing - not only is it more likely to fail and leave you stuck - but "secure" music doesn't work with most of the hardware or software I own.

Between DRM and other measures like the Sony Rootkit, it's not only easier and less hassle to get stuff illegally, but technically safer.

i did actually purchase this off a legal site. and they have been no help at all. they said i should talk with windows customer service. so i have no idea what to do. only paid €10 for it so doesnt particularly bother me either way but am annoyed at service and complexity.
