Have an opportunity to get one of these for £335 Sterling (Approx €480). Is that a good price or would they come down a bit once they're fully released?

E-Bay. There's one for £330 plus £15 shipping but I mailed one chap that's selling them and he said £330 with shipping included.

I would be wary, a few nightmare stories about Ebay and newly released phones.

what about the Sony T610? I've seen one in the highstreet for €399. Is that a good price?

T610 - currently STG £245 from mphone.co.uk or STG £240 from expansys.com - note mphone.co.uk's courier charges to ireland are a bit cheaper though (mphone.co.uk £19, expansys.com £25) - so works out about the same

not sure where you are getting your exchange rate so best check yourself the euro value... comes out cheaper than Eur 399 on www.xe.com

    mphone.co.uk = £245 + £19 = £264 = €384
    Expansys.com = £240 + £25 = £265 = €386
Tommys Toy Superstore = €399 and no wait!

At the moment the exchange rate is 1 EUR = 0.686788 GBP

Tommys Toy Superstore sounds great then - go for it if you want it immediately - in fact it 's a good price (comparing the 21% vs 17.5% VAT difference)

exchange rate changes / comission can be a bit different depending on how you pay for it - so didn't want to quote a direct comparison for you - better to check it yourself the way you were planning to pay...

btw - where does Tommy have his Toy Superstore :)?

Just bought it. Christ, I couldn't have been more wrong about the phone when I first saw it. It's a lot smaller than I thought and I love it. Got it in Tommy's in the Blanchardstown Centre. Very surprised myself at the price. Paid by laser. Great thing about this is not getting tied into another year contract with Vodafone. Do you have to register a new phone with Vodafone? I've already changed the details on the insurance policy.

i only ever changed the insurance - never bother updating the voda site (unless your insurance is directly with vodafone then you might have to?)

they haven't officially supported it yet - so might not be possible to do anyhow - until they support the T610 (whenever that's going to be )

They apply to the Z600 as well, suggests that it will be coming soon too.

Great news - that was a long time coming...

someone might want to tell Voda customer care though as they are still saying it's not listed / supported - looks like the settings haven't made it to their help system - isn't on the Voda website either... maybe when it hits the stores it will all be sorted...

good to see the MMS details get sorted - whoever in there put the T68i config texts together left the IP address out of the MMS settings they were passing out / listing online...

Yeah, I rang them on Friday to register my phone with them but it wasn't listed in their database.

Yeah phones seem to be added to that in batches. Just tell em you have a T68i and that will set you up the same on the network.

so if 'joe soap' calls up they are going to be told it's not supported yet?

when I rang on Friday she told me she couldn't find the phone listed and put me on hold while she went off to ask someone. In the meantime I was disconnected and haven't bothered ringing back since.

As the people that generally man helpdesks dont actually have a personal interest in phones, it is very difficult to talk to them about anything specialised. This is to be expected though.

Ask them to set you up as a SE T68i as this supports pretty much the exact same network services as the T610. This will give you the correct APNs and will ensure you are correctly provisioned on the MMSC. This will ensure that you can access WAP and send MMS messages.

This should be ok if you do not have insurance on your account. If it is the case that you are a Bill customer and want the phone covered by insurance, instruct the CSR to include a comprehensive interaction on your account under the insurance heading to ensure that if there is any problems when you make a claim, it is all in writing on their systems. The handset should be added to the list relatively soon though.

I got a chance to use the 6600 briefly over the weekend. Really is a very nice phone. The size or shape was not really an issue for me. The interface was straightforward and the display was really impressive.

Shame Vodafone are not launching this till Feb sometime.

erm... just thought you had said it was supported with all the settings etc. posted - only problem was when a punter called Voda customer care about it they're told it wasn't... was wondering if anyone else had managed to get help (or if i was just experiencing that voda care lotto effect of not getting though to someone who would/could help)

that's more what i was asking - so i could correct myself saying it 'wasn't officially supported yet' incase anyone asked me - not a gague in how knowledgeable someone on Voda customer care was about handsets or answering 'specialised' questions :) - just if the phone was officially supported and if the settings/ basic assistance was available to 'joe punter' who called up - and unfortunately they wern't

    The 6600 is a WAP 2.0 phone, isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

I love the sarcasm in your reply :)

What I meant was, they have a list of phones that have been launched on the network that have been fully tested on the network and operate with all services. Unfortunately, some simple thinking (narrow minded) CSRs have got it into their heads that these are the only handsets that work for the likes of MMS, WAP and the Email client. This as we know is not the case... It sound stupid but some people consider that to be complicated.. You gotta realise everyone is not as tech savvy as us.

So back to it.. The phone has passed testing on the network but it has not got onto that list yet. Hence, sometimes you may get a less knowledgable CSR who will tell you it is not supported, while some will know better and will help you out.

It may also be a surprise to you, but there is 50 things that would be bouncing arounds someone head in a call centre that are more important to them than the latest handset. Hopefully this will become a thing of the past however soon enough.

you've missed my point, after i mentioned it wasn't officially supported on the network you replied back saying it was proving it with all the settings...

unfortunately 'joe punter' calling Voda about the handset would still be told it either didn't support the services or isn't approved on the network - so unless one actually worked for the company and had access to pre-released handset configs etc. they could kinda run into a brick wall

it may even make the cust care person's task even harder - with them being told it's not supported by the help system and joe punter saying they've been told it is and have the settings etc...

not much surprises me about Voda cust care - been through some truely amazing experiences over the years - positive, negative and pure surreal... ;)

Ah yeah, I know what you mean. I was simply trying to explain why it happens the way it does. I am not making excuses, nor am I saying its acceptable...

So Finally, the T610 has passed testing.
