    I've encountered a strange problem

    1 Mac
    1 Pc
    1 Crossover Cable

I've got them both connected, the pc has happily been working away and so has the mac and I've been taken stuff off the mac on to the pc for ages now. I decided the other day to move my ITunes collection to the PC as it's got more space. Anyways I wanted to browse the pc so I went

    Finder
    Go To
Connect to Server smb://192.168.0.140 [IP addy of PC]
And no matter what it won't browser the bastard
    File sharing is on ..
    Windows Firewall is off...

    Have also tried smb://[ip]/[share]
Can open a terminal window and ping ip addy and replies no problem.
    any clues ?

What version of Windows and OS X are you using ?

Do you get any error messages ? Are you asked for a user and password ?

Mac OSX 10.3.9 and Windows XP SP2

    Exact Error Message is ...

"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data
in "smb://192.169.0.140/" could not be read or written."
    (Error Code -36)

Is is XP Home or XP Pro?
it's easier to enable windows sharing on the mac and connect from the windows PC if you are using XP Home.

Xp Pro .. File Sharing and Printer Sharing are turned on, The root of both H/D's is shared. The PC isn't on the net etc so I don't mind leaving it turned on like that, also windows firewall is off.

Are you asked for a username and password to connect ?
Do you have accounts on both computers that are accessible from the other ?
Can you ping both machines from the other ?
Have you set the Workgroup name in MacHD>Applications>Utilities>Directory Access>SMB CIFS.

In finder when you open you hard disk you get a list of devices down the left pane. One of these is NETWORK. Have you tried to navigate this ? Is your user account set to access SMB shares or Windows Shares ?
