Well, we had our second child last Monday, a baby girl weighing 7lb13oz :)

We were calmly preparing to go to hospital when events overtook us
So, I had the honour of delivering her myself :)
From first contraction to delivery was just under 30 minutes!!

Funniest part was when I placed the newborn on my wifes tummy and our 3 year old saw her and shouted "BABY!!"

    Sweet!

Funnily enough the midwife that delivered our second in a (planned) home-birth told us that her very first delivery had been an unexpected emergency before she was a midwife

She was already a trainee then though.

Congrats! That's excellent. Fair play to ya.

Had you seen the birth of your previous child?

Yes, our first was born in early 2002.
I was in the delivery room and they let me cut the umbilical cord which was cool. Kind of symbolic too.

In 2001 we attended the ante-natal course (6 one hour classes) before his birth - they were great classes - very informative. They covered ante-natal, delivery, and post-natal topics.

A couple of other nice things about our daughters birth:
    - when the ambulance guys arrived they let me cut the umbilical cord too (they said "since you've already done everything else")
    - they also left me the scissors which is a nice keep-sake for her.
    - we didn't know whether we were having a boy or girl, so it was nice to find out for ourselves :)

Congratulations, and best of luck for the future. I suppose you wont be as busy posting here now! Other things on your mind. Good luck and enjoy those sleepless nights!

    That's the ULTIMATE :D

Congratulations again. I'd LOVE to deliver my own child.

Congrats. I was at the birth of my twins and it was (at the same time) the most wonderful and scariest thing ever. I can't even imagine trying to deliver a baby myself.

    Nice one Causal,
    hope things are going well.
Came across this post as a link while looking up a VOIP question.

I've also got twin girls and an older boy, and their births will always
be among the clearest and dearest memories of my life.
