They were moving the servers around during the weekend, this has caused problems for everyone, it (according to the admins) should sort itself out

if your having problems with www.boards.ie, you can always try muppet.boards.ie that might help.

EDIT you might want to try this also http://82.195.136.36

Yup would appear to be due to the server move, appears to be a few things not working up to their usual high standard, will be fixed asap...

    Sorry for the inconvenience....

The problem has nothing to do with boards.ie as he can load up boards.ie by switching to another ISP.

Next time do a trace route to boards.ie using both ISP's and you should be able to see where the problem is, then email your test to NTL :D

Since I'm not able to refresh your ISP's DNS cache, you'll have to wait for DNS propagation to finish.

I couldnt access boards for a time using a wannado home broadband connection in France over the weekend .
    All other irish sites worked.
In the end it just started working but only with opera and not ie which was strange.
It didnt work with opera for a while there either.

Just to let you know it's still happening to me and Im using Esat NoLimits.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,486 ✭✭✭Redshift

Esat's DNS now points to 82.195.136.36 for boards as do all the major irish DNS servers.
You must be picking up stale DNS info form somewhere try flushing your Browser. I take it that you are not running your own DNS server...

Try open a command line and type
    ipconfig /flushdns

    Then try again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭galwaydude18

seamus that doesn't work! Just tried it there and it made no difference...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,279 ✭✭✭regi

It'll just pass. If you have stale DNS, we can't really do that much to help.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭galwaydude18

well it was working perfect for me in work yesterday until about 3 in the afternoon then I could not access boards so it's not just my pc! It must be something at your end...

I've had grief over the weekend as well - minimal access on Sat, 50-50 y'day and nearly back to normal today.

    Am on NTL.

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

The IP address of the machine was changed, and a redirect was in place, which was then removed.

The entire process should be transparent to you, as DNS should look after the change for you. Obviously your DNS cache is stale (like having an out-of-date map) so your machine is looking in the wrong place for www.boards.ie

Go to a command line and run
    nslookup www.boards.ie
    paste the result up here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭galwaydude18

Right heres what I get when I do that

    c:\Profiles\Administrator>nslookup www.boards.ie
    Server: ns.esatclear.ie
    Address: 194.145.128.1

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: www.boards.ie
    Address: 82.195.144.58

    Any ideas on this?

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

I'm getting the exact same thing. ns.esatclear.ie is usuing stale information.

You'll need to hard set your primary DNS server for a while until the server updates. I'm not sure what OS you're using, but on XP, go into Start > Settings > Network Connections.
Right-click on your connection, whatever it is, and go to properties. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties. Click the Use the following DNS sever addresses radio button, and in the Preferred Server field, put in 192.111.39.1

Go into the command line, type ipconfig /flushdns and then try to access www.boards.ie again.

Working fine for me now after changing the DNS. Thanks Seamus.

Everything seems to have sorted it self out in the last hour or so. :D (on IBB BTW)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭galwaydude18

Seamus that has sorted it out! When will this issue be resolved correctly?

  • Registered Users Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

Whenever Esat's server sorts itself out. Totally out of boards.ie's control.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,815 ✭✭✭✭po0k

Basic Telecomms & Communications should be on the Junior Cert.

esat dns servers still stale ...
    you can just add :
    82.195.136.36 www.boards.ie
    to your hosts file

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,064 ✭✭✭Snowbat

Still stale, and if I understand what's going on here, this is not a DNS propagation delay and it will remain b0rked until Esat fix it. The TTL currently showing for www.boards.ie on auth01.ns.esat.net is 86400 (1 day) so this should have picked up the new ip address within 1 day of the move. However, for some reason known only to Esat, auth01.ns.esat.net thinks it is an authoritative nameserver for boards.ie and is therefore not delegating to the real authoritative nameserver ns1.hosting365.ie and not refreshing. Any nameservers that use auth01 such as ns.esatclear.ie are also affected. I'll send the details on to the Esat hostmaster and see what happens.

    $ dig @auth01.ns.esat.net www.boards.ie
