    Hi everybody, are we all whistlers or are you after the guitar bits.This piece is not easy to play well, but easy enough to learn by ear/ I am new to this forum, English, living in Denmark, recently back from Clare, and a whistler and guitar player, the boatman is part of my repertoire, very popular here in Denmark.

    this is the loansome boat man. In future if you are ever looking for sheetmusic or ABC's, they will almost definetly be on this site. And if they aren't, you can request it! You need to be a member to download the sheetmusic files, but its free!

    I know this thread is old, but its in that charter that if you are requesting tune notes that you do a decent search for them yourself first! :)

    Lonesome Boatman is a lovely song, I am gonna try learn it for my grandad for Xmas.

    The session.org is the last place you should be looking for sheet music! Often the tune transcriptions are done badly. The version posted above for example is the tunes most basic and incomplete form and without any ornamentation. If you're going to play the lonesome boatman on the whistle you'll need a fair bit of ornaments like double cuts otherwise it'll sound pretty cr@p.

    There's no fast fingering in it as it's a slow air, unless you mean the ornaments in which case you'd probably want to get a teacher to go through them with you. If you don't know whistle ornamentation to begin with there's no point you trying to copy Finbar Furey, there's a lot more going on there than you'd think, including bending of notes.

    This is the type of tune you really need to play by ear and if you can't hear or don't understand the ornamentation, then you'd be better off (for now) sticking to a more plain and simple version.
