Hello folks, I have been considering buying a 2012 BMW F800ST. I have never owned a BMW and was wondering if anyone knows a reliable mechanic who works independently [not in Joe Duffy) who might look after servicing it. Replys by PM welcome, thanks.

An F800ST doesn't really need to go to a BMW specialist for servicing - they are much the same as any modern bike and any decent mechanic will be able to do everything you need. Platinum have a good reputation but it depends where you are in Dublin.

Yeah I was thinking that myself, not too many electrics gizmos on it, almost feel dirty even thinking about it after 30 odd years exclusivley on Jap bikes:)

The F800GS is a lovely bike, I almost sold my 1200GS to buy my son's 800GS when he was selling it. I loved it.

The only reason I didn't change was because I wasn't going back to a chain drive and tubed tires. Other than that they're a fantastic bike.

Re Joe Duffy's, although they're slated here their servicing costs are competitive now with Platinum.

Cotter's also have a BMW trained mechanic in their workshops.

The F800ST has compter which keeps track of service items and you will need a mechanic who can read the outputs. The best drive needs tension cheked and I think this needs a special BMW tool

It tells you when it needs a service and the mechanic just resets it afterward. Belt tension isn't rocket science and any mechanic will be able to check/adjust it.

Not any more, the guy isn't working there anymore, or not doing bmw servicing anyway.

OP, I read that again and apologies I thought you mentioned an 800GS.

Not quite true. Computer tracks errors messages and highlights items needing attention.

I could adjust it, but only if I had the special tools needed. And if I didn't routinely work on them then I probably would not have those tools

Hes totally out of the bike game now. Has nothing to do with bikes anymore
Hes in the building game now with his own rather successful building company.
