Viewed a bike earlier for sale, forks leaking, just a little pitting on the forks where they travel. Would new seals be a waste of time or any product one could use in conjunction with new seals to give a good result. Just buying the bike for the summer and moving it on again.

It really does depend on the pitting, even a minute pin hole will wear away at a fork seal over time. But it could last a year if you lucky. You could get the micro sandpaper at it and see if that helps worst case scenario get them re chromed.

Are the pits from rust or stone dents?
If they are rust you need to clean and treat the rust before you do the procedure below.
If they are dents and the edges are proud of the rest of the fork leg, use a very fine stone or file and lightly dress them so they are flush with the rest of the leg.
If the pits are deep, clean them very well with white spirits and then alcohol.
Then get some epoxy and mix it well and apply a tiny drop to the pit, immediately cover it with a strip of insulating tape.
You want it to just fill the hole not have big globs of it dripping down.
Once the epoxy has set use a strip of 1000 or 1500 grit wet and dry to bring it back flush with the chrome.
The less epoxy you use the easier it is to sand back.
Its a slow process but it works and costs less than a fork leg.

They are from stones, you can just feel them. the area around the pit is not proud in any way. Ill try upload a photo.
