The local authorities are still selling off voter details to various private companies (I know this as they spell my name incorrectly - the local authority way).

This time I got a flyer from BLUECREST HEALTH SCREENING and it's written and presented in something akin to what you woud expect from The Readers Digest of old, or like an Online Shopping product. And they want to meet me in the Bewleys Hotel, Dublin Airport!!!

They are probably sincere, but I do not know. There are a few references to them in the odd Consumer Groups in the UK.

Has anyone ever been to them before? Their prices look good, but I would like to hear from anyone who has used them before.

    Many thanks

If it's voter details they are using then they are using the electoral register, which is publically available rather the local authority selling details. If you think the details were sold to them you can contact the data commissioner.

You can check the Register of Electors at http://www.checktheregister.ie
It will show if you are on the Edited Register (the one used for non-electoral purposes).

Got a letter from bluecrest today aswell, disregarded the content of the letter immediately because I was more concerned about where they had gotten my name and address from. I'm not on the register of voters as I'm not old enough to vote. So where did they get my details from?

People who send out those circulars don't necessarily have your details on their files. In order to get around data protection legislation, some companies will, for a fee, send out a marketing blurb for a third party to their customers. Your name and address are not necessarily known to the company who's brochure you receive, unless you reply to them and give them your details.

Most of the time when registering your details with a company, there will be a box to be ticked or unticked which says something along the lines of: 'We may send you marketing materials from our trusted partners', you may have inadvertently left this box ticked so the company you gave your details to are now sending you stuff from a third party.

My mother got one of these Bluecrest yokies yesterday. She is not on the edited register nor does she EVER tick the box allowing them to send crap from third parties. So she wants to know where they got her details from.

She also keeps getting post from some 'hearing specialists' wanting to charge her a small fortune to check her hearing. Again same jobby, no edited register, no ticky boxes...

I must get onto them and find out what details they hold!

They also fell foul of the toothless ASAI last year. I say toothless as a similar offer to the one they were told not to advertise again was included.

I started to get the odd one of these in the post as did my sister and my aunt/husband. We all joined a hotel gym/pool and we think this is where they come from.
