1 – Moscow: with a congestion ranking of 74pc

2 – Istanbul: 62pc

3 – Rio de Janeiro: 55pc

4 – Mexico City: 54pc

5 – São Paulo: 46pc

6 – Palermo: 39pc

7 – Warsaw: 39pc

8 – Rome: 37pc

9 – Los Angeles: 36pc

10 – Dublin: 35pc

Shows the need for better public transport, and elimination of journeys through flexitime/remote working etc.

I call BS on that report. They're saying that Dublin is even more congested than cities like Calcutta? I think not.

What a load of codswallop! "Worldwide", excluding Asia, Africa and South America (other than Brazil and South Africa).
The media will reproduce any headline-seeking press release without any fact checking.

seems silly to be honest. Traffic moves in Dublin, it doesn't in Calcutta. Also Moscow is certainly not number one in the whole world.

Well:

The Traffic Index is a barometer of traffic congestion in 169 cities across six continents. It compares travel times during non-congested hours with those in peak hours. Cities with the highest rankings experienced the sharpest increases in travel times between the two periods.

The index is based on real travel time data captured by GPS devices in vehicles driving throughout the cities. Its database contains over 9 trillion data measurements. Local roads, arterials and highways were taken into account.

Cities in Asia were not included in the index due to insufficient data, otherwise the big cities in China and India would be likely to feature on the list.

Well, would 6th most congested city in Europe sound any better? Sounds about right to me, the traffic is horrible. Strangely enough, many people seem to be happy sitting in their little cars going nowhere.
