    On Channel 4

Nice idea & the events look pretty tough, though the "jump" at the end is a bit anticlimactic.

    Yeah, I've been watching it.

The Skeleton looked proper scary. Fair play to the contestants for having a go. It must be the most dangerous reality show I have seen, I know some contestants pulled out in training, and they had more injuries in the show.

It's a shame they have to record the events, it takes the edge off it a bit. But I enjoy the competitive nature of the show.

Too bad that the majority of reviews thus far have been negative - and that there have been a lot of comparisons with a certain ITV show featuring Tom Daley...

Bit unfair pitting the women against the men in the skating event tonight. It's not the type of event where they are likely to be equals.

    This show is actually horrific.

    Jump, I mean, bump! :o:o;)

You know a reality TV competition has Not Done Well At All when its viewing figures have been poor throughout, when it has received next to no positive reviews, and when not a single person shows any interest in the result...

Indeed, only 1.89 million people tuned in to watch Joe McElderry win largely by default. Even Channel 5's live Big Benefits Row managed to attract more viewers!

It's probably fair to say, then, that this is Davina's biggest flop since her BBC1 chat show in 2006 (although I do like her, and always have :o). And it's probably fair to say, too, that Mr McElderry is destined to be the show's only champion... ;)

    At least nobody died!

I enjoyed it. Anything is better than yet another cookery show. Channel 4 should revive 'The Games', that was a similar but more interesting format.

The Games was great - what a shame Channel 4 replaced it with more Big Brother. :(

Despite receiving terrible reviews, disappointing ratings and putting more contestants in hospital than any other gameshow, The Jump will return in 2015!

    http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/s231/the-jump/news/a593703/channel-4-recommissions-the-jump-for-a-second-series.html

I'm pleased to see it back, I much prefer this kind of show to the endless celebrity cooking competitions.

Only just found out that Channel 4 boss Jay Hunt really likes the show... :o

The Jump (like ITV's Splash!, but with more broken bones) was "the first time we have had a big pre-watershed hit for quite a long time," says Hunt, who is keen to bring it back. "It's hard to think what is our pre-watershed tone of voice," she adds. "There is a gravitational pull at 4 towards the edgy, the difficult and the rude. To have found a show that could serve a family audience and get the figures it did was really important."

She has received quite a lot of flak in her four years at the channel - and, with all due respect to her, much of this flak hasn't been without good reason.

'Cause in that time, among other things, the documentaries have become even more sensationalist, "ad nauseam" has become a good term to describe the broadcasting of Come Dine With Me, and Countdown has had three changes of timeslot through no fault of its own.

She's obviously able to defend these developments and cope with the flak - but she may find herself in serious trouble if this second series of The Jump performs worse than the first...

    Second series starts next Sunday.

And, as in the first, the participants include a TOWIE star (Joey Essex this time), a Pussycat Doll (Ashley Roberts), a socialite (Lady Victoria Hervey), a former England cricketer (Phil Tufnell) and at least one X Factor contestant (Stacey Solomon and JB from JLS).

Also taking part at the time of this post (two of the original line-up have had to pull out due to injury) are Heather Mills, Louie Spence, Mike "Mr Zara Phillips" Tindall and Steve-O from Jackass.

Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, Amy Williams and Graham Bell all stay on as mentors, joined by Sochi snowboarding bronze medallist Jenny Jones.

Davina will be the sole host - no surprise, really, as Alex Brooker did just about nothing in the first series. :o

Finally, as if further proof were needed that Jay Hunt really likes the show, there'll be a companion show on E4 - hosted by someone I've never heard of. :o:o

Another participant gets injured. I wonder how many people they have on standby? Every Z Lister in Britain must be waiting for the call!

Gogglebox star Dom Parker has suspected concussion after crashing during ski training for a Channel 4 reality TV show.

The 49-year-old, who was practicing a ski cross course for 'The Jump' in Austria has also hurt his shoulder and is being monitored by specialists.

It has not yet been decided whether he will continue in the show, which has been beset by injuries ahead of its return on Sunday.

Was put wise to this by my sister, saw it for the first time two nights ago (never even having heard of it before).

    It's NUTS

Was Phil Tufnell really in it? Cannot possibly imagine that!

Had to google most of the participants - but still makes for fairly great viewing! (Maybe my standards could be a bit higher......)

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,944 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Oh, and Mike Tindall's nose is REALLY crooked :eek:

I like it too Heidi, it was even more destructive last year when they ran out of contestants due to injuries.

All the competitors seem to be determined, hopefully nobody gets too badly injured. It is a mad mix of proper athletes and Reality TV people

As for Mike Tindall's nose, he might be getting some stern words from his in-laws! ...

Well, I'd say this was right up his street - given his time in the Australian jungle, plus some of the Captains' Challenges on A Question of Sport.

Don't forget, fellow bowler Darren Gough was on it last year. ;)

I like it to. Even more now Lady V gone out although I was hoping she'd faceplant that miserable face of hers off the jump before she left ;-)

The Jump returns in February 2016! Apparently this Series will be broadcast weekly rather than daily, for some reason.

    http://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/jan/16/superman-dean-cain-sarah-harding-channel-4-the-jump

Former Superman star Dean Cain is one of 12 celebrities including Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding and Olympian Linford Christie who will take to the air in the next series of Channel 4’s winter sports series The Jump.

Channel 4 has signed up 12 stars, six men and six women, to appear in the third series of the Davina McCall-fronted show.

The women’s team will include former Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington and gymnast Beth Tweddle, Holby City star Tina Hobley, EastEnders actor Louisa Lytton and socialite Tamara Beckwith.

Competing against them on the men’s team will be former EastEnders actor Sid Owen, ex-Westlife singer Brian McFadden, Towie long timer James “Arg” Argent and Made in Chelsea’s Mark-Francis Vandelli.

It was a surprise to see the show return for a second series - but it's not a surprise at all to see it return for a third.

After all, the second series did do better in the ratings than the first, and Joey Essex did have to work that bit harder for victory than Joe McElderry did (though, naturally, he didn't know what a cowbell was).

    1423559767_joey-essex.jpg

And, presumably, Jay Hunt is still quite proud of the show. ;)

This year's line-up is largely as one would expect: TOWIE star, MIC star, girl group member, boy band member, socialite, American personality, and at least two sportspeople, at least one of whom is an Olympian (on this occasion, all three sportspeople are Olympians).

However, there are three soap stars, including two from Albert Square. No soap star has taken part before, so this is quite a departure. And there are no comedians, no journalists, and no businessmen or businesswomen...

But of course, this line-up is subject to change. With the very greatest of respect, it would be quite remarkable if no-one got badly injured... :o:o;);)

There has already been a change among the coaches - no real surprise that the in-demand Lizzy Yarnold has come on board, alongside Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards and Graham Bell. (I certainly don't mean that in a bad way - she is a fabulous woman as well as a fabulous athlete. :);)) Definitely no change as regards the host, though - Davina easily proved last year that the show works better with her alone, and it probably doesn't need to be said that it wouldn't be the same without her. :o;)

As for the decisions to air the series weekly rather than nightly, and to have the celebrities live together in the same luxury chalet? Presumably these were made with the intention of boosting ratings further. They might do, if the producers don't let power get to their heads too much...

It also looks like the companion show on E4 won't be returning - which is probably for the better, as I don't recall many people talking about it last year. And I'm still not sure I could tell anyone who Cherry Healey is, other than she's a presenter and she's not related to Austin (who may well take part in a future series, if there are any). :o;)

    And we're off again!

Ambulance/helicopter in the opening credits.... this could be fun!

Just wish I'd heard of half of 'em!

All annual leave cancelled at Innsbruck A&E Department until The Jump is finished! Hope Becky Adlington is OK.

Do they all stay out there until next Sunday and the week after etc now? Must cost Channel 4 a few quid.

Fair play to all of them. I know this show has a more limited appeal than most Reality Show but I like it. After Joey Essex's shock win last year it will be interesting to see if the Olympians can step up. Maybe they should make it a team competition - Olympic Medallists v TOWIE v Former Boy/Girlbanders etc.

Another Casualty at The Jump ...
Holby City actress Tina Hobley has been forced to pull out of Channel 4’s reality sports show The Jump after a blunder by programme bosses saw her dislocate her elbow.

The telly star, 44, was practicing on one of the ski jumps when members of the crew failed to vacate the landing area and broke her concentration.

Tina fell over on her arm upon landing and was rushed to hospital when doctors tended to her injury.

Ouch. Tom Parker from The Wanted is her replacement. He was already in training as a reserve. Last week he tore ligaments in his hand after a fall

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,944 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Jaysus, there's a fair attrition/carnage rate in this

Will they have anyone left by the time the final comes around??

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,444 ✭✭✭✭Skid X

It's like Rollerball On Ice. Hope no-one gets seriously injured before the end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,944 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Christ almighty, what on earth are they dressing Brian McFadden in???

They're only short of putting him out in a full leprechaun suit!

(I'm a bit behind, he's just appeared for the air jump)

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,944 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

And what was that Heather Mills bit all about

I'm assuming they've lost someone else (Sid, maybe?) and she's the next reserve?

You'd want to be nuts to sign up for this!! :D

I think she's in to replace Beth Tweddle (the Gymnast). She had a nasty accident.

    http://www.bbc.com/sport/gymnastics/35516231
Olympic bronze medal-winning gymnast Beth Tweddle is "stable" in hospital after suffering a back injury on the Channel 4 reality show The Jump.

Tweddle, 30, who retired from gymnastics in 2013, hit a barrier on landing and has quit the show.

A family statement read: "Beth had a fall on the slopes whilst in training for The Jump. She is stable and due to undergo routine surgery on her back."

Beth is having a "routine" back operation, not good for an olympic gymnast

we saw no footage of what happened though

I wonder how much the production insurance costs on this show - it's mad!

That girl from casualty was very skilled in avoiding the rogue crew member walking on the course - despite breaking her arm which looked awful sore.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,403 ✭✭✭daisybelle2008

Davina talks some inane drivel, meanwhile celebrity's queue up to take turns be seriously injured and maybe fired to an icy death. That's the premise?
Sarah Harding seems to be one of the few not sh*tting herself, mainly cause she seems drunk all the time.

Well, I did say in post #19 that it would be quite remarkable if no-one got badly injured... :o:o:o;)

I do hope, though, that Becky, Beth and Tina all make full recoveries.

Meanwhile, Heather's overjoyed about becoming the show's first returnee, according to Metro UK:
Heather took part in last year’s show but admitted that she always felt like there was ‘unfinished business’ after she had to complete her jumps on someone else’s prosthetic foot.

‘I always felt it was unfinished business... finishing second overall in the only event I got to compete in, the skeleton, and having to jump wearing someone else’s foot, was pretty bad luck. I never even got to compete in skiing. I know I can do much better, and I am working with my prosthetist to create a foot that has more movement like a human’s.’

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the normal eliminations of Louisa Lytton and James Argent have been largely unnoticed amidst all this.
