Seems that somebody lost the key to open the Sean O'Casey bridge to shipping back in 2010 and now the DDDA can't afford to replace it. Now I know having ships go so far up the Liffey is unusual but honestly this is bordering on the farcical.

It's in the last place they would think of looking, left mine in the fridge one day.

Seriously though, how much could one key cost? And why would a bridge that is designed to last (presumably) for years be controlled by a remote control? Remote controls go missing in my pleace on an average of one every three months, stolen by the remote control fairy. Silly.

Nothing, nothing that officialdom does surprises me any more. A total bunch of sloppy shouldered cretins.

Look at the plus side; nothing got stuck behind the bridge! :pac:

Also, now all the amateur radio people will be next to the bridge trying to make it go up, for the craic :P

The operation of the bridge is controlled by a remote radio transmitted hand held pendant key. The bridge is opened by releasing the locking pins in a predetermined sequence via a radio controlled signal to the ‘hydraulic rams’ at each slew ring bearing. The electrical distribution panels, hydraulic motors and pumps are suspended in the zone of main structure beneath the bridge deck. Readily accessible electrical switch cabinets, downloading sockets and navigation lights are integrated within the balustrade panels at the tips of each bridge leaf.

Should have gotten one of those one 4 all jobbies. Or gone all out with a harmony one. Might try my old remote control wristwatch on the bridge next time I'm in the area. See can I get it to open and close with the volume buttons or something...

They should look for an inconspicuous flowerpot near the bridge. There's probably a spare hidden under it.

In fairness who is surprised? DDDA was an absolute disaster of a state body. IFSC is horrible place at night with nothing to do.

Its not much better during the day either tbh.

So much potential for a large area to be built in the city centre and it was squandered.

IFSC is private property. You shouldn't be in there at night without permission from the private group that owns it.

Contact Dublin city council. DDDA is no more. Their area has been taken back in charge by DCC they had a public consultation about it recently. Docklands / birth lotts SDZ.
