Anyone who wants to enter the competition can do so starting in week two, you will just be playing catch up on everyone else.

There will be three new categories starting from next week where you can gain a further one point for each of the following: which player gets the highest average, which player gets the lowest average and which player gets the highest checkout.

ahem... catch up is relative..there's a few of us with only the one point!

I think all my predictions have been spot on, but the players are getting it all wrong.

Indeed he has, some top quality predictions from him lately.

How many weeks are left anyways Kingp?

Gotta say that this predictions league has added greatly to my interest in the PL this year. Still far too bloated a tournament mind

It´s a pity I didn´t get involved before a week five. I might have at least 4 points more :-)

My life is finally worth something! :D

Thanks a million for running this Kingp, it definitely added to the interest in the seemingly never ending weeks of the Premier League this year. Much appreciated.

Have to say, it was the first year I ever really bothered to keep an eye on the PL.

I have no doubt had I entered the first night, I would have got the 26 points needed to take the title...

A bit in the future, but one that could work would be a World Championship predictions competition, especially with the Christmas break

Another thing that might work for upcoming tournaments might be some form of 'fantasy darts' based on seedings. Eg : You have to pick x number (4-6) of players, and get points for each player depending on how far they go. The players grouped as per the seedings and you have to pick one player from each grouping.

Yeah some good ideas there, the fantasy one could be interesting and would work well for the UK Open coming up considering there are so many players in it and a large amount of seedings.

My only worry for the tournaments not using the fantasy method would be the time constraints as in I would have to try and post the results each day and get predictions from everyone each day which might not work as some people can't get online very day.

Would be worth coming up with a plan for the fantasy darts though and try it out for the UK Open.

Looking ahead to the UK Open I was thinking we could work the fantasy game like so

I based it on odds rather than seedings, as the seedings for this are a little all over the place due to the way qualifying ranks are determinded. I was thinking if everyone selects 1 player from each group below

    Phil Taylor 7/2
    Raymond van Barneveld 10/1

Then we could assign points based on the round of exit of each player.

eg preliminary round exit might be 1 point. Where as overall champion might be 20 points.

    Could that work?

Does this mean that I should choose one player from each group who I think he would be the best from his group?
Does it mean that there is 9 groups so I will pick up one player from each one so I have my own "group" of nine players and then I would collect points for every round my player would get to?

That's the idea yep. It wouldn't be possible to do a score predictions type competition with so many games happening so quickly. But this could work

Great stuff, how many rounds in the UK Open? How do you think we should breakdown the points?

There's 9 rounds including the Preliminary round. Maybe do it as 50 points for the winner and work back from that as in 25 for Runner up, 15 for quarter finalist etc.?

Hmmmm 50 for the winner and 25 for the runner up might be too much of a jump. Will knock together something later on based on a prelim round and 8 further rounds and stick up here for thoughts

Anyway, I´d like to see who plays who first. There´s no spider yet.

Well entries will be open until the morning of the first game played in the tournament so plenty of time. Would like to have a format established and agreed over the next few days, then post the thread on Wednesday/Thursday which would give people a week to do their homework and pick a killer team

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,533 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Okay, there are 9 rounds in the UK Open including the preliminary round. I propose the below structure

    Winner - 30 points
    Runner Up - 20 points
    Semi Finalist - 15 points
    Quarter Finalist - 12 points
    5th round - 10 points
    4th round - 8 points
    3rd round - 5 points
    2nd round - 3 points
    1st round - 2 points
    Preliminary round - 1 point.

Points assigned to your player based on when they exit. eg 4th round loser will get 8 points and so on.

I dont want there to be too big a gap between first and runner up as having too much of a gap so that its unfairly weighted to having to have the winner. I actually wonder if 10 points is too much of a gap.

Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Looks good to me KevIRL.

Whenever you want to start a thread with the format etc I will make it a sticky.

No probs Kingp, might make some small changes to the groupings - put Taylor and MvG in their own group as no one will pick the other 2 in that group and re-allign the other groups. Also will reduce the gap between first and second

Do you think that the stickies get noticed a bit less than a thread on the forum does? Might be better to leave it unstickied.

Will get it posted either later this evening or Wednesday evening.
