    Hello,

I am trying to put a collection of films together for his external hard drive. Did this for his birthday last year but he's watched them all and is wanting more so could anyone recommend some films. He likes action/thriller/historical films - so films like Saving Private Ryan and Gladiator (which he has watch literally hundreds of times!). Basically no rom coms or fluffy films!

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

    Sarah

He'll love Rescue Dawn, Stalingrad and Letters From Iwo Jima (maybe not the last two if he has a problem with subtitles). Maybe Black Hawk Down fits the war theme too despite the whole 'woo America' aspect (which is admittedly not too prominent).

    A few others:
    L.A. Confidential (great action/suspense)
    Marathon Man (espionage thriller)
    Zulu (war classic)
Children of Men (one of the best actions films in recent years)
Gran Torino (good Clint Eastwood flick)
Serpico (great film about police corruption and one man's desire to highlight it)
Dog Day Afternoon (bank robbery drama that's also very funny)
The Taking of Pelham 123 (the 1974 original, smart film about a hijacked train, an 'under-known' classic)
The Stranger (hunting a Nazi drama)
    Munich (revenge thriller)
Charley Varrick (a bank robber realises his latest conquest was actually mob money; anyone who likes No Country For Old Men should give this a go, I think there's some influence)
Falling Down (a man starts to lose it on the streets)
Insomnia (two cops investigate a murder in Canada, very good Nolan film)
Sea of Love (thriller, a detective becomes romantically involved with a possible killer)
Blood Simple (brilliant Coens film about an arrangement which goes horribly wrong)
