    Hi all,

Apologies in advance if this has been queried and answered previously but I couldn't find anything specific on here (http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=69169657 came close but need a bit more info)

Have a HP G70 that's around 3-4 yrs old - recently the fan has been getting very noisy (now sounds like a Boeing 747 warming up) and the battery is totally knackered (can't even turn on laptop now unless it's plugged in to the socket).

We use it quite a lot at the moment (streaming, RTE Player etc.) so it's getting a lot more use than when we initially bought it. Buying a desktop isn't really an option at the moment due to lack of space.

So basically, my question is if it's worth getting the laptop serviced/repaired and getting a new battery, or investing the money instead in a new laptop?

    cheers cm

Sounds like it is a build up of dust in fan which actually sometimes kind of "congeals" in the heatsink fins, a good cleaning and possible new thermal paste will sort it, as for new battery you can source one yourself cheaply enough on ebay, quick search brought up these :

The shops with the trusted seller beside their name should be reliable, as for getting cpu and inside laptop cleaned you should ring around for a few quotes but it is worth getting done.
    :D
