I am going to attempt P2 in the December exams and notice there is an Irish variant. I study at home and would like to know if there is an Irish study text or is the International version similar.

Hello, which P2 did you choose in the end? I am trying to decide now also; Intl, Irish or UK variant. I am doing these exams by myself through home study.

I believe that if you want to register as an auditor in Ireland or the UK you need to complete the relevant variant. Otherwise go for the International Variant.

Ok I have looked into it some more, and I am going to do P2 Irl Variant to keep my options open. My next problem is that BPP only seem to have a P2 text for International and UK. Is there a book somewhere for the Irish Variant? Thanks.

It will be pointless to sit the Irish variant P2 paper unless you already know you want to sit P7 as well, as both are required if you want to become an auditor. Just so you know very few Irish people sit the Irish variant, especially those training outside practice. The vast majority of Irish students sit the International paper. The knowledge requirements are much higher for the Irish variant, as you need to know all the Irish standards as well as the International standards. The BPP text covers both the International stream and UK stream. The UK standards cover Ireland as well, so the standards are the same. The only difference between the variants relates to Company law, which differs in each jurisdiction.

Thanks jjjd. All going well I am going to sit P2 and P7 in December. I have read somewhere on this that the additional requirements for P2 Irl isnt that much at all, and considering I am going to do P7, I reckon I should keep my options open. I have a good few years experience in Auditing from a previous job.
I see on the BPP site that the texts are P7 International and P7 UK. Is there no P7 Ireland text?

I concur with your comment re the additional material not being too bad (IMO) - but that was with direction from a lecturer as to what standards the differences were actually worth studying, and in what depth, etc. Left on my own with a book I'm not sure I would be confident. Demand for Irish text is not there to drive publicationI would think - get the UK one and that will do the GAAP but ignore UK company law and just look for sources to cover the items listed on the Irish syllabus re Irish company law is probably your best bet for home study...
