Looking for diver/submariner watch

I just sold my Tissot, so looking for a replacement.

I want to get an automatic diver's / submariner style watch, preferably 42mm - 45mm face without crown. Preferably black crown and bezel and on a SS bracelet. I already have a large bright orange diver, so looking for a slightly more subtle one!

My absolute max budget is 350 delivered, ideally I'd like some change from that but I want to get a keeper and not something I'll sell on later.

My short list is:

Steinhart Ocean 1 Black - €330:

Seiko SKZ209K1: €180

Seiko SK007: €200

Sparrowcar has a Mako. I've tried it on and it's quite nice. I'm sure he be along soon to advise on it.
The Steinharts you won't go wring with. I quite like the vintage red they have and I also like their "mil sub" too. Not too sure on cost of those but I'd imagine they are around the same as the one in your post.
Again you won't go wrong with a Seiko. Good build quality, in-house movement etc. I think Homer has a 007 or maybe a 009. I've tried his one on too and it's a super watch.

I doubt you'll go wrong with any of your choices.
If it was me I'd be getting the Steinhart mil sub. Sword hands, domed sapphire crystal and IMO looks the biz.

That is very, very nice. Don't know how I missed that. I think that's gone top of my list! Not sure if I'd prefer it with a date window, but either way it looks great.

Eoin, as MB said I have a Mako for a few months now.

Excellent watch for the money. Good weight, build and look. It gets some great reviews on TZ and WUS which is what sealed it for me. You have €180 on your post but they can be had for sale price of €131 delivered at the moment from where I bought.

If I had €300-350 to spend I'd go with a Steinhart also.

Yeah, I think it looks class. If you want a date but no cyclops you could do a lot worse than the Steinhart vintage red.

^ I like that one a lot and for the money it is the one I would buy new. Its a really nice looking watch from a quality assured company.

As regards other options...if you considered second hand an option, you could probably find a fairly minty used Seiko Sumo SBDC001 in that ballpark and that is one truck load of diver for the money, especially if someone else has paid the price of entry already.

Thanks, but a little too chunky looking - I've already got quite an unsubtle divers watch so looking for something a bit more classic looking.

I think one advantage of the Steinhart besides its quality in this price range is that they are easy enough to sell on if you decide its not for you (likewise with the Seiko)

They are all a bit generic, submariner copies, if thats what you want go with a steinhart but what about a triton or something for a more modern twist?

Thanks Cyrus - I like the face of the Stowa, but not the square setting. The Steinhart is just a bit too "rugged" or something.

A Stowa is high on my list for a dress watch though (down the road).

Thanks, but definitely not for me. Auction starts at £310, and a quote of £150 to get it fixed. So that's EUR550 at a minimum. Plus it probably has a pretty small face if it's from the 60s.

I am biased, but an SKX007 is a solid diver and can be personalised with a few mods....
