Flying to Kuala Lumpur this afternoon with Emirates ex DUB-DXB-KUL, I have been looking forward to this trip for ages with my second trip on the A380 being a highlight, imagine my horror and disappointment when I checked in online to discover I will now be flying on the 777-300ER instead, I am angry as I had given Emirates the business with the A380 in mind and supporting Dublin despite the illogical routing living in Kerry which sees Heathrow nearer as otherwise I'd have flown direct from Heathrow with Malaysian instead.

I'm totally P'd off with Emirates as I now face a much longer journey costing me more on a crappy aircraft which is like flying inside in a hoover the noise of the thing plus 10 abreast seating!:mad:

I would be just as happy with the 777-300ER  infact I'd be thrilled! You have already flown A380, now you can add the 777 to your list unless you have flown on it before.

You should have supported your local airport anyway. Instead of crossing the country by going up to Dublin.

How did you know it was going to be the A380 on your specific flight?
Alot of these routes have A380 on 1/2 legs a day and a different aircraft for others. My own experience Singapore Airlines operate their A380 on HKG - SIN but otherwise its a 777-200/300.

Ive been lucky enough to fly on the A380 9 times!

Count yourself lucky-the wings going to snap off the A380 at some stage:eek:

When did a 777-300ER suddenly become "crappy"?

When they stuck 10 seats across instead of 9 ;)

I'm pretty sure it is in your booking small print that the aircraft type can change without any notice. I can remember Qantas when they first started flying the A380 they gave a warning on their website booking page that the aircraft may not be an A380 as planned or words to that effect.

I'd be delighted with a 777 myself, love them. hard luck though OP :(

Yeah, I'd be pretty sure of that. Once they get you to Kuala Lumpur they've pretty much done their bit of the 'contract'!

Flew to Kuala Lumpur with Emirates a few weeks ago. Also booked to fly stage two in an A380. Was changed at last moment to a 777.

Ten abreast is too much for a 777, seats and aisles are very narrow. Sleeping in an aisle seat is almost impossible with people knocking into you.

The trip from Dublin to Dubai in the A330 was a much nicer experience, felt a lot less clostrophobic.

I also normally love the 777, MAS being very comfortable.

Hope you will not be holding too long at Dubai, most nights its crazy there..

I'm flying with Emirates to DXB (then to COK) on the A330 in June but my return leg is in August so that will be on the 777
Hmm never flew on one, 10 abreast sounds very claustrophobic indeed

Yes its claustrophobic alright in the 777. The legroom isn't too bad though. And the food and service is pretty good too.

Just remember to walk down the aisle sideways..!

EK are banging the drum at moment.................claiming that the wing crack issues with their A380's are disrupting their operation. On airliners.net it has been reported that they are offering First/Business class pax compensation as the hard product on the A380 is superior to that on their B777/A330's.

While I can see the OP's point I have to say at least they are merely subbing your aircraft type rather than revising your schedule due to cancelled flights.

I think BA tried the 10 abreast when they first got the B777 but quite quickly reverted to a 3-3-3 seating config.

Thanks for all the comments guys, just after getting to my hotel here in KL and and have been running in zombie mode for the last while, I'm awake over 30hrs now but just getting ready to settle in for the most badly needed sleep ever!

Two words would describe my travels today with Emirates, Horrific and a can of Sardines.

The A330 leg from Dublin was good enough and well within my range of tolerance. The stewardesses were brill and their excellent skills kept a small army of kids nearby in check as I was dreading they'd wreck the flight. I can only compliment their staff whom were of all different nationalities.

The A330 itself having flown before with Aer Lingus and Qantas met my expectations and I had good enough leg room and several inches between my window seat and the wall of the plane. The inflight entertainment was a disaster as it is streamed on Emirates A330 and not on demand, add to that a small 4:3 crappy screen and it was just plain bad. Other wise I can't complain about the A330 and I was happy enough to tolerate it for the 7hrs to Dubai, the plane was full in Economy and had big load in business too, didn't get a peek into 1st class.

Landing in Dubai we were all unceremoniously dumped on some remote apron and bussed back to the terminal before going through some of the rudest and downright aggressive security I have knocked across, the guy I got made Homeland Security and the TSA look like angels in comparison.

Dubai Airport must be the worlds first shopping centre with a Runaway to fly in the customers. Landing at 1am it resembled a small bit like the crowds outside Croke on All-Ireland final day, literally jammers until around 3am when the crowds slipped away. I hate this over-commercialisation of Airports, it makes the journey more frustrating and annoying I think.

Now I was doing ok up until the Kuala Lumpur flight, as expected the A380 was indeed swapped for the 777-300ER and it was full to capacity all ten seats abreast and I had the luck to get an obese lad as my next door neighbour for the 8hrs and there is some sort of stupid box thing under the seat which I think is the computer for the in-flight entertainment which was good enough.

Being wrecked tired and squeezed into a sardine can with a whale next to me and leg room of one leg, I got drowsy and nodded off only to wake in agony with a massive cramp in my thigh, I actually bit my jumper in pain until I woke the whale and jumped out and went walkies until it eased away. This has happened to me before and I very conscious of DVT and love a bit of room, hence booking for the A380. The seat is butted right up against the Window leaving no room for the blanket or pillow when not being used.

I am very disappointed with Emirates having heard the hype and whilst the Dublin leg was ok, the Kuala Lumpur and my right leg wasn't.

Last time I flew Etihad from Heathrow it was so civilised, with a a A340 from Heathrow and a jetway in Abu Dhabi, the airport was not mental packed or was it like some American gaudy mall.

One thing for sure and certain I will never again be caught on a 777 with 10 abreast seating, and to think they send those yolks to Seattle for a 14hr flight! I'd be dead anyway if I was on it that long!

Have a good time in KL Stinicker. Drop into Healy Macs, was there for St Patricks Day, dont remember much! Friendly city though and the food, yummm..

I agree with your comments about Dubai airport. The bussing reminds me of Ryanair except you travel miles to reach the terminal. And the toilets, there was a queue for the cubicles. At least the waiting time for the connection to KL is fairly short, about two hours if I remember correctly.

    "Stinicker"

Thanks for that report, I was considering an upcoming trip to OZ with EK, but after your episode, I'm steering well clear of Emirates

    Thanks

Bear in mind that if you're flying to Syndey, it almost certainly(Unless they switch like in the OP's case, but i imagine there would be higher load factors onto Sydney that KL) would be an A380 from Dubai onwards. Not sure about Melbourne, but a 777 to Perth alright. Also bear in minnd that from July this year, there will be a 777 running the Dublin to Dubai route instead of the A330

So Ethiad via Abu Dhabi on the A330 is looking a bit more comfortable then.....

Opinions do vary though, know some one who came with Emirates from Perth back to Dublin via Dubai recently and said both flights were brilliant, didnt ask him about the bit in the 777 specifically though. He said when he's coming home from Oz in future, he would only go Emirates

I think alot of people are jumping at the one stop only and comparing it with the two stops and of course its going to seem better.
