You certainly could go direct I suppose, and the DI box would certainly be a better idea. however the sound is just not the same as using a guitar amp.
Are you going through an effects pedal or anything first?

Hey - thanks for getting back to me.
It's basically just a temporary thing - I'm an acoustic player but want to branch into the electric. Have been offered a good deal on a Strat and very tempted to buy it.
I have a Marshall acoustic amp, but that's not suitable for the electric.
I actually have a Vox Tonelab LE effects board. Could that be used to connect directly to the PA?
I'll get a proper amp down the road...but at the moment i'd love to be able to just connect directly into the deck. I know it's not going to sound as good as using an amp, but I just don't want it to sound chronic!
