Some great threads on it here.

Also there's a vid on youtube (can't find it now) of people filming out their back and the noise is apparant. Then there's a flash and it stops.

I havnt watched all the above videos but I figured this out the other day..

Listen to the following for a minute...

Then watch this till the end... or just the last 20 seconds

So it's simple a sample from the first and played over a regular video with no weird sound. Everyone is doing it now. :D

    Some maybe genuine though.

It's probably a viral marketing campaign being fed into the ct media to generate a stir.

    Update:

STRANGE SOUNDS IN SKY EXPLAINED BY SCIENTISTS

    Saturday, 28 January 2012 09:17

Mr. Khalilov, what is the nature of the unusual very low-pitched sounds reported by a great number of people in different parts of the planet since the summer of 2011? Many call them “The Sound of the Apocalypse”. Information about that comes from all over the world: US, UK, Costa Rica, Russia, Czech Republic, Australia, etc.

We have analyzed records of these sounds and found that most of their spectrum lies within the infrasound range, i.e. is not audible to humans. What people hear is only a small fraction of the actual power of these sounds. They are low-frequency acoustic emissions in the range between 20 and 100 Hz modulated by ultra-low infrasonic waves from 0.1 to 15 Hz. In geophysics, they are called acoustic-gravity waves; they are formed in the upper atmosphere, at the atmosphere-ionosphere boundary in particular. There can be quite a lot of causes why those waves are generated: earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, storms, tsunamis, etc. However, the scale of the observed humming sound in terms of both the area covered and its power far exceeds those that can be generated by the above-mentioned phenomena.

    Fascinating stuff.

Given that this has occurred countless times throughout human history it's interesting to think about how our ancestors might have tried to rationalise it. A host of angels playing trumpets, perhaps? The Bible is full of references of heavenly sounds that could easily be explained by these sounds.

ive never ever heard of bangs and noises in the sky before have any of you?...and i havent heard any but seems to be all over the net...scientists are fobbing it off as normal....eh excuse me...if it normal why isint it at least known about as a feature of weather?the story put out there by them is 'ah sure the sky is always bangin away' i dont think so..im pretty sure the only natural noise from the sky is thunder...i have to wonder is it anything to to do with something fookd up with particle accelerator in cern?

Cern or those weather controlling frequency generators.

I might have heard these sounds, I woke recently asking my wife if she heard them, I do live near a container terminal and many strange sound emanate from them but not in the middle of the night [usually].

Its strange alrite and your hearing it in ballymun must be all across d city iv rang d port n they said its not any ships blowing horns

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,041 ✭✭✭Havermeyer

Can you still hear it? If so, is it loud?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭EIDW

It would seem to be a natural feature of the weather insofar as you have a naturally occurring phenomenon, solar flares, making contact with the upper atmosphere etc which in turn produces these sounds. I didn't like the sound of this bit though

"In both cases, even though the causes of acoustic-gravity waves are of a quite understandable geophysical nature, they are indicative of the expected significant increase in solar activity and the geodynamic activity of our planet. There is no doubt that processes in the core rule the internal energy of our planet, therefore, we should expect by the end of 2012 a sharp rise in strong earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and extreme weather events with peak levels in 2013 - 2014."

I think this is already happening and has been for a year or more already. If one watches live earthquake reports, one can see the chain of event run around the globe.

Many places reporting stronger than normal and we have the almost theoretical limit of the Japanese fault last March. California has had weeks of perhaps thousands of tremors instead of hundreds and their magnitude in some events would have been serious except for their locations in low population areas.

    A bit strange

I was woken up at 3 this morning by this sound. It lasted for a few minutes, then went away. It returned after another few minutes and lasted again for a few minutes. Very odd.

My housemate told me this morning he heard it as well. I'm sure there's some scientific explanation.

well after a bit of investigating iv found the source of the horns it was a jcb on the near by train tracks doing some work on the tracks the loud sound was metal against metal

The explanation of the scientists leaves me very worried. Major weather/geological events etc=bad generally for living organisms like humans.
