Advice needed VW trying to ride me!

Lads some advice needed please, i'm quite upset with the reaction from the VW dealer.

I brought my car (06 Passat 2.0tdi Dsg) into a VW garage at 8am yesterday(Thurs) to have the injectors replaced under the recall. I collected it later in the day and about 5 minutes later on the M50 it started to shudder and lose power. It was extremely dangerous and it eventually died on the M4. I managed to get it started after 10 minutes and got it to my estate where it died again.
So I rang the dealer and he asked me to bring it back. I told him I wouldnt drive it as it was dangerous. He didn't offer to collect it and I ended up having my insurance company tow it back, this was near 6pm.

There was no contact from him so I rang at 17.10pm today. He said the problem was the fuel pump and it will cost almost €400. And it won't be done until monday.

So this recall has cost me my car for 5 days and probably €400.

Need advise on what to do please...

Anyone got a number for VW Ireland customer services? None on their website.

Was there any problems like this before? Bit of a coincidence that 5 minutes later after they worked on the car that it shats itself. €400 for the new part and the labour at a dealership is probably the norm. Then again I'm not a mechanic but someone here should know from how you described the problem, if it is the fuel pump or not.

Would be hard to prove if they are trying to bend ya over

Only on mobile but I seem to remember reading about a similar problem. I believe this was the thread, hope it helps or gives a pointer at least.

Friend of mine had a similar problem on a Nissan (injectors & then fuel pump) he put it down to the cheap diesel fuel he was buying... (most likely washed fuel) Have you been buying diesel fuel from a reputable source?

I always buy diesel from Tesco and always pay with Laser Card and have receipts for my last few fill-ups.

I rang customer care there and they said they will contact the dealer. He said they sometimes offer "goodwill" but i'm very unlikely to get it on a 06 car. I argued that their recall may have caused my fuel pump to go. He said he will talk to the dealer on monday when they open.

Fuel pump goes on them allright. Had the same problem and it went under warranty. Took 6 weeks to coke in so ve had to provide a car for .6 weeks. Wouldn't blame them although it seems coincidental.

I just did a bit of googling and found there was a recall in 08/09 for fuel pumps. See the 2nd post here:- http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055376880&page=3

I rang the guy in VW Customer Care again and he checked my chassis number but couldnt find anything about that particular recall(though there were others). So how does one 06 2.0TDI have a recall and mine not?

Yours may have been shipped from the factory with the new pump already installed.

Just to update this, I got the car back 6 days after I left it in for the recall. They tried to charge me 400€ for a new fuel pump, but it turned out they hadn't fitted one of the injectors correctly. Terrible service, lies and no quality control....definitely my last VW!

Well, at least they were honest with you regarding the injector.

True but I have often questioned people who are supposed to be experts at their job.

For example I phoned the garage where I purchased my car over the Injector recall, I gave the service manager my reg and chassis number and he booked the car in to have the injectors replaced. In the meantime I was speaking to George Dalton about doing a different job to the car. He informed me that the car had a CR engine which I never copped myself..:o

I phoned the dealer back and questioned him and he said Oh yeah thats right..

I then asked him about the Oil pump balance shaft and he told me that only applies to cars with a DSG gearbox..

where is this dealer? I always use the one in Belfast for my service and find them to be competitively priced and most pleasant to deal with. I've had nothing but trouble, overcharging and bad 'tude from ROI VW so I exported my custom.
