...and you've gone through Customer Service and not resolved whatever the issue is.

Can you just go into the Bank and cancel that Services Direct Debit?

Is their any problem doing this?

I would say so. Are you in contract? Have you written them a letter outlining the problems? Is their a regulatory body who could intervene? In other words can you give us some more info?

Right now, you're not giving enough information to best answer the question.

Are you currently in contract to the provider? And what is the situation?

Most service providers will require you to give 30 days notice for cancelling. IF you don't do this, you can expect to be billed for penalties. You cannot just stop paying because you're unhappy.

Brother is 6 Weeks into a 12 month Contract with an ISP, it never really worked right, signal strength is to weak.

He rang them a good few times and tried their "Fixes", but he's getting nowhere, he's not going to waste anymore time with them and is just going to cancel the Direct Debit.

I told him hold off untill I see what you guys reckon!

So maybe write them a letter telling them your Cancelling the Subscription due to....non working service and cancel Direct Debit in 30 days?

If he has record of contacting them, and that their proposed fixes didn't work, then he needs to hang on to all of that. Write to them then, send by registered post, and tell them he's cancelling due to non functioning service. Include the records of contact and what has been done with it to try fix it.

Also contact the regulator, ComReg with details of the issue and make sure that a "formal complaint" has been sent to the company. The words "formal complaint" must be used.

The company may be able to resolve the issue but it sounds more like they are relying on upgrades to happen in your area and are just delaying your complaints until that happens. You are entitled to have your complaints dealt with in a reasonable time though. Ten days should be more than enough time for them to resolve any issues.

Indeed - he can't just cancel the DD, as he would still be in contract, and the ISP would be entitled to chase him for the remainder of the contract.

He needs to write seeking formal termination of the contract, making sure to include as much contact information as possible on the customer service attempts.
